Hi there,

I'm very new to this forum but if I may have 2 questions about output transformers:

#1. How do they compare or is there a difference between 2 Dagnall OTs with the same serial numbers but different letters on them? For example:

DE C2668-A vs DEC-2668G vs DEC-2668.

#2. I've recently bought a Marshall Black Jubilee - "SEM / SEMKO / Swedish or Scandinavian" version. The standard 100W Jubilees have Dagnall DEC-2668G OTs in them but this one came with a DEC-2723J OT which has 2 taps only: 4 & 8 Ohm. Anyone has any info on this transformer? I've tried to google it but zero results.

Many thanks, in advance, for all your help!

#1. C2668 - Dagnall transformer.
#2. C2723 - Drake transformer.

Used in plexi, JMP, and JCM800 amplifiers. The original Silver Jubilee line are JCM series.

One thing to mention, the Canadian market and Northern European market(like yours) had only 2 taps on the transformers due to each countries regulations. They also kept the JMP skin until the mid 80s vs 81 like the rest of us. I had an 82 JMP 2104 combo, from Canada and it had the high voltage PT (510v) like my 82 JCM 800 2204. I have no clue why Marshall changed the styling for everyone but Canada and Northern Eu. I've also seen a Canadian 78 2203 with a laydown PT...those stopped in 74 I think? Canada and Northern Eu also kept the toggle switches and jewel light until the end of the JCM 800 line. My 87 2554 combo is from Canada and it has toggles and the square jewel.

Good stuff! My 2554 has the 4/8 tap and the "laydown" style PT. Sounds better than any SJ I've ever played. Is this because the Canada transformers are spec'd differently from the USA line?

All I've ever been able to learn is the countries' electronics regulations forced Marshall to use different transformers, with only 4/8 ohm taps vs the normal 4/8/16. The Canadian amps also had a bevy of fuses inside the chassis. But that doesn't explain why the amps were JMPs during the 81-85 yrs when the rest of us got the JCM 800. The circuits were 800 circuits full of the lego caps etc but they were in JMP chassis and head boxes.
Be interesting to find out why.

Could be date codes for when the transformers were made by year. Marshall was known for using letters for this purpose during the dagnall years. Just a hunch.
