Pulled out the RG550x last night, first time playing one of my Ivebeenhads in months other than screwing around with my RG565 and damn you can just rip on that flat plank   Of course after about 90 minutes my wrist was rebelling hard ready to lock up from the wizard neck

Nothing like a roadflare red Ibby, a hot rodded marshall, and a rack of 80s legendary rack fx to end the weekend

Do you know what radius necks were on the Jem's from around 1988?

arent they 14-16?

i love 16" radius for studio work, not a fan of them for band playing - i prefer the strat radius/necks for band use. cant make use of the 16" radius live, just overkill IMHO. the strat radius's makes chording alot easier especially while trying to sing :)

My ideal fretboard radius is 14". All my guitars have a 14" radius except for one with a 12" radius.

The radius on RGs is actually 430mm (17''). JEMs are the same.

I've been ordering all my necks at 16. Methinks it's the thinness of the wizard necks that hurts your wrist.
Try something starting around .850 at 1 and .900 at 12.

i have played wizard necks for over 10 years and never had a problem.

alot of it is proper warm-ups, stretching, proper practice techniques, and noticing when your hands are telling you to stop whatever you just did.

to be honest wizard necks are more comfortable to me than baseball bats, but i can play on either one without a problem. just adapting different holding techniques for each.

Compound radius FTW. 10" down low to make chording easy and 16" up high for soloing.

one of the many reasons i miss my wolfgang. the damn compound radius was a night and day difference playing standing up and singing when compared to my other toys.

i miss that damn thing. wish i didnt have to sell it when i did

Same reason why I quit playing Ibanez guitars years ago. I can't deal with the yardstick necks...

My favorite is 14" , although the Suhr Compound felt almost the same.

14 " for me is better for chords , better for bends and vibrato, better for gymnastic stuff- and once I get beyond that it doesn't feel too different but 14 is the THING for me.

I remember many years ago when I'd pick up those real round 7.5" Strats and I could play rhythm, and fingerpick on them but bending and vibrato - no way small radius and tiny frets are not for me.

Finally! You're the only other person I've seen that also prefers 14" besides myself...above all else. I was beginning to think that I was the only one. Every time the subject has came up, most ppl are 16" all the way.....or 9.5, 10 to 12. I agree with your perception as well....for it being better for chords, bends, and vibrato...as well as being flat enough for gymnastic type stuff. Although, I've owned a Suhr with a 10"-14" compound myself and I just could not bond with it. I found myself going back to my 14" guitars everytime. The only compound radius I can really appreciate is T/A's 12"-14".
