I am new here but I come seeking advice from DAR FBM owners.. If one would be kind enough to crawl out of the ruins.. I am the new owner (aka price inflator) of the most recent FBM which went up for sale.. My dilemma- I live in the states but the amp is coming from overseas.. I asked the seller about the fuses as most gear I purchase from overseas requires different fuses for use on 115v. The seller’s response:

“I've checked the mains fuse and it's a T10H with 10 ampere so it should work easy with 115V and the plate fuse is T5AH and will certainly work too without any issues.”

Is this sound advice? I figured if anyone would know it would be this community. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Does it say 10A and 5A for 115V?

I think the power supply is a switch mode supply in these. You’d have to pull the chassis and give me a model number off of the supply so that we can recommend a properly rated fuse.

If that’s not the case and it’s not also clearly marked externally, I’d probably need it on my bench to do a current measurement under load.

Wow! Thats awesome, I would have never thought about looking at the model# on the supply! This is one piece of gear that was unfortunately never labeled externally.. Worst case- I’ll see if I can pull the chassis & get you that number.

I cannot believe such a well engineered piece of gear doesn’t have something as basic as fuse rating markings for a given wall voltage. No way I’d let anything like that go out the door - you’re very correct to be worried about having the wrong rated fuses as it’s a definite fire hazard should something go immensely wrong especially on something as complex as this is.

My thoughts exactly.. As you can imagine I don’t even want to plug it in until I know it’s getting the proper voltage. Whereabouts are you located? It would be nice to have a contact who is confident to work on this monster if ever needed down the line. Everybody needs a good tech!

I finally received the amp… it was an absolute PITA to get through customs she was trapped for a few weeks.. pulled the chassis this morning.. I see the Power transformer sticker not sure what the other one is but I added a photo of that too :) hoping you can come through & give me a solid recommendation for the fuses glpg80… I will compensate you for your time & assistance my good man..

Can you make clips, when you sorted that out?

It’s a linear supply not switch mode.

The only thing you can do to get the right size is someone analyze it with a power analyzer to see what peak current it draws on initial turn on. Not even a DMM will help here because it’s peak not rms and most aren’t fast enough. You size the fuse to overcome peak initial surge current which gets worse as caps age which is why you need to size it correctly. This is what happens when designers don’t do their job to rate their own products.

Tell me about it… I do have a local amp tech who works on my stuff but as you can imagine I’m eager to take this thing for a test drive… lol let’s just say I powered it on with the current fuses I had listed.. could any harm come to the amp? Or is it more of a concern of the house wiring.. I do have a dedicated 50amp circuit feeding a breaker box dedicated to my studio… so I would be safe there. Main concern is the amp of course.

If something shorts and the fuse doesn’t open, you’re looking at a potential fire hazard. It’s why I’m not recommending any sizes and telling you as it is.

Keep the fire extinguisher by the amp. Gotcha! 😎 lmao no worries man I understand the concern for liability. I’m not that dude, but the point is valid. Respect 👍🏽 People are weird & suck so they would hold your feet to the fire 🔥 lol I’ll get with the local tech & have him run a diagnostic. Thanks for taking the time to reply it is truly appreciated.
