dimarzio tone zone (a little more open though, deeper id say)
dimarzio distortion

a trick i've used in the past too, is if you have any gibson 490r pickup laying around, put one in the bridge position...kinda tone zone-y but a little bit thicker or dark.

lots of mids, anti-scooped, but not bass pickups. ;)

Duncan custom custom.

I put one of these in the bridge slot of my Gamer Mirage Koa specifically to darken things up a bit, and it worked like a charm. Very thick, lots of kids, but tamed the harsh brightness. It's got a fairly high output... that might be the only drawback for the OP, but fwiw I still get a good dynamic response from it. Ymmv, of course.

Duncan Custom Custom would also be my Suggestion

or a Dimarzio Breed.

Maybe it is time to try Duncan again. I've tried a couple here and there, but have mostly stayed away for the past 20 years.
In 1982 Seymour made a killer humbucker for a Tele I had back then, it was so overwound I had a hard time setting the pickup height because the coils barely fit through the bridge plate!

bk miracle man NECK
it's very fat and dark, like a tonezone without the mud

I had the nailbomb and afwayu in my main les paul
the afwayu was VERY dark
nailbomb had dark mids, but bright top

In this guitar, the Nailbomb is just a little too fizzy on the top.

The Afwayu seemed just a little bright at bedroom levels, but had a lethal treble response at normal stage volumes.

If I try another Bare Knuckle it will probably be the Black Dog.

Les Paul it ain't!! Easily the brightest guitar I've ever had.

'K - Installed the Tone Zone and Liquifire. Went with the 250K pots to start. I used virgin .047 caps, cheap polys from CSI.
Loud bedroom levels through a 5150 Combo, this sounds the best so far.
Very "vowel-y" like I expected with a different brand but did not get.
Had to drop the low E string pole pieces on the Liquifire (double hex head poles) just a little and raise the D up a fair bit.
I put the Tone Zone reversed in the bridge to help a little. Had to raise the high E and the D just wee bit, everything sounds balanced now.
Still bright and maple-y but balanced and some nice mid character now.
I will give it a go tomorrow live through the small venue rig.

Tone Zone kills in this guitar!!!

The Liquifire is a little too bassy and breaks up a little early. I'm calling DiMarzio to see what they say.
Nice juicy highs and and thick mids though.

OK - Got a return auth. from DiMarzio. They suggest Breed neck.
Looks like Fat Pat is going back in for now, with the 250K pots, haven't tried it like that.
Does anyone know if SD has a similar exchange policy? Might try to get something for this PhatCat.

Got an RA from SD... They suggest a Jazz for the neck??

So, you're diggin' the 250k pots with the tone zone, eh? I haven't heard a tone zone other than one wired with 500k pots in a friend's guitar.
How does it sound with the 250s compared to running it with the 500k pots?

I've got a Tone Zone in a Wolfgang with 500's and it's great in there, this is a bright guitar as well but not as bright as what I'm dealing with now.

In the 72 it's pretty chunky with the 250's. Lots of power on the gain channel, actually much clearer than I had hoped. Does not seem like the top end is missing anything at all. I reversed it with the screw poles away from the bridge. Seems to be just right. Rolling back the volume just a little keeps it from feeding back when picking chords on the gain channel. Notes stay clear yet sing and sustain forever.
Tone Zone is staying in this one.

i forgot to mention a lynch screamin demon

nice mids and top end bite, low end definition...real clear sounding and can get thicker and buttery with the right amp settings....nice mids in this pickup.
