Looking for suggestions on high gain or medium gain heads that are on the darker/warmer side of things. Right now I have a XXX head and a Vplexi 50w bogen.

I have DSL100/50 and Marshall VM on my short list to look at. What others would you suggest for Hard Rock/Rock tones? Just feel like it's time for a different flavor to play around with.

The DSL is a great amp, but I wouldn't call it dark, I find it can be too bright at times if anything. I'm biased but I think the XTC is great at that.

i dunno if i would call it dark but the Krank rev1 is a great head. and very moddable. my powerball i thought was very dark. also the krank chadwick was great. no, not a krank fanboy but both were awsome amps when i had them. i seem to prefer darker sounding heads also.

probably something with 6l6's..instead of the el34's....

what cab are you using with the xxx?..i also have one..came pretty dam close to selling it until i paired it up with a v-30 loaded cab.........pretty dark...

Mako's are definitely dark amps, the Budda SD series as well

No clue about the Dorado's but I had a Mako Mak2 (Black - Makoplex) version, definitely seemed darker than other amps I had tried.

I LOVE YOU, MAN!

The Rev1 lives on low mids. All the power and dynamics of this amp seem to be voiced strongly mid range. Sounds great with the gain and presence down a bit, mids up and parametric real low. So yeah, it's dark. If you scoop the mids and turn up the presence and sweep, it gets thin and buzzy fast.
Chadwick not as much gain, but awesome, awesome clean channel that loves pedals, more of a classic, less modern sounding lead channel.

Probably the best Dark high gain tone I've ever used is the EG3/4 module from Egnater. It is an amazing module. Either get the module, or get a Egnater IE-4 and use channels 3/4.

Dark? High gain? Bogner!

First name I came up with.

Randy just get the VM ya putz, it fits YOUR style imo. or a DSL, that would work.
