DAVE bias and dissipation ?

what dissipation % do you recommend on a kitchen sink modded amp? 70% a little hotter? a little colder?

Well how about anywhere you like it from 30ma to 40 ma I set them a 30ma all the time it seems to be the best harmonically to me but this is with jj's which is what I use. With winged c's I like them at 40 ma. Personally i don't like them with my stuff. They seem harsh these days. They use to be darker then the jj's

I just installed a new set of or should I say they were new but old as hell SED'S and I tried playing and changing the bias and diss. from 60 percent which is 33 ma on a set of SED's to 70 percent which is 38/39 ma on the same tubes.
I even tried the 65 percent setting which comes out to 35/36 ma. I ended up staying with the 60 percent 33ma due to the fact that I wanted longer life on the tubes and I felt the need to tame this amp down.
Try it a few ways, you will definately get the best understanding of what the amp you have can do set either way. time consuming but worth it.

I liked the 60 percent setting on my last one also. I can tell ya that what Dave is talking about with the 70 percent setting on the SED'S is smoking sounding. I got one marshall set at 70 percent, just to have that choice as a comparision.

the trick I use is to run the bias up to the point that the amp starts to bleed some background hiss and hum, then back it off a little bit until it is quiet and see where this is in range. it is usually between 70-80%, but depending on the batch of tubes, could be higher. Each set of tubes is individual and past performance can't be trusted!

I can say this, based on my experiences with all these different amps/builders included and the Bullshit that goes along with, for better and worse.
Dave and his amps/mods are head and shoulders above the rest. PERIOD! With Dave, I have experienced no Bullshit, no Baggage, just helpful exchanges and a product that I don't have some type of dissappointment with. I love all the amps I have kept, but the friedman amp as it sits here any way shape or form....... Just rules, 100 percent satisfaction without letdown of tone, functions, mods, either way being present or not present for the money.
So, even with the friedman amps biased one way or the other a guy is happy. When it's all said and done, the whole picture really is important. I have to exclude Mike Fortin from this opinion as I have not yet dealt with him as far as ownership of any of his products, but I have had the pleasure of dealing with him from the one on one exchanges and he is a perfect, friendly guy, so I would say Mike and Dave have that in common. I may very well not buy another damn amp from no other builder other than Friedman and Fortin, after looking at the large picture and these two guys are Tops! I would like to add that the guys at Bogner would need to be included in this list, making the top three .. Charlie and Reinhold are great!
