Is a dc5 comparable to a mark 3 in terms of tone/gain? I rememebr trying to get people to post up dc5 clips in the past but never could get them. So I have the cash and I see one on ebay... but I dont want to pull the trigger if it cant pull off the mark3 stuff. So any opinions, or should I just wait for a Mark 3 in my price range?

I got the answer I needed on HC. It's not comparable at all to a mark 3, gain is very very smooth. I dont want smooth.

I owned a DC5 years ago and i must have played hundreds of gigs with it. It's a solid amp but it's gain channel really lacks dynamics. You can play 10 different guitars through it and they'll all sound the same. In some instances that's not a bad thing :D But it has plenty of gain and it has the EQ onboard so you can get some good tones. The clean channel has a pull knob to get a semi-dirty tone which is nice, but the volume really jumps.

The band i was in played a lot of the bullshit nu-metal and the DC-5 handled it with ease. Crap like Linkin Park, Godsmack, Papa Roach, Rage, etc.

Overall i like the III better. The lead channel is a brute and the R2 is really good. The one thing the DC has is a totally independant clean channel.

Ill take another review, is the gain smooth? Can it get gritty like the mark 3 at all? I have a sloclone i would be pairing it up with the sloclone is somewhat smooth already and has great upper mids and highs. Looking to something to fill out the low mids with, would the dc5 be the ticket? I know dc series are a little bit harder to sell if it doesnt end up doing what I want.

Yeah, I'd call it smooth. I sold my DC-5 head for real cheap, i think around $475. Know that i remember it, i had a head and a combo. But once i got a IIC+ i sold them both.

there was a DC-5 (or maybe a DC-10?) at the Lewisville guitar center when I was there like 3 weeks ago. it was in the little private room thing.

it could very well still be there

I actually have located a DC10 in kilgore,tx for $600+shipping. Im still going to wait at least week.. probably 2 before going with one of those. It sucks when you have money burning a hole in your pocket. I also found a local rectoverb 2x12 for $900... but I dont want a 2x12 combo :aww:

i found a rectoverb head locally for $700 that i'm really tempted to grab

also that money burning a hole syndrome...but i know that cash needs to stay in the bank for the time being
