I wanted to do something interesting to one of my mahogany Carvin SC90's. I took a chance on a Dean DMT "Lights Out" bridge pickup since I am a huge Schenker fan. It measures out around 17k........but it doesn't sound that hot in reality.
I wasn't expecting it to be the best sounding "hot" ceramic that I have ever used.....at least in this particular axe. Prior to the Lights Out, I had a Duncan Custom, Dimarzio SD, BKP Nailbomb, and a Smits Dirty Finger replica in there.
Compared to the Duncan Custom, the Lights Out is much beefier with more mids and has a warmer high end.........less of that ceramic "cluck" going on. The low end is also not as boomy. Compared to the Dimarzio SD, it is much more organic/less forced and not as ragged on the edges. Slightly less mid honk and not as "nasal" sounding.
I've swung and missed so many times on buying buckers based on web descriptions and forum hype..........but this time I hit a home run
