So my 1995 Jimmie Vaughan Strat developed a bad paint peeling problem. It was starting to annoy me so I went to work.

Stripping the body was more like peeling an easter egg.

I tried not to make it to shiny, trying to keep it vintage looking.

I'm in the process of refinishing my '95 MIM CAR Strat.....mine is already stripped, but I'm curious as to how you got the finish off that easy?

I used a heat gun and a scraper.

Did you go past the seal?

Thanks guys. Rev,It was peeling already. It had adhesion issues. The finish was 1/16 of an inch + which is way to thick. I heated it with a heat gun and used a gasket scraper and, it came off pretty easily. Never had one like that before.

great job, but I reckon it needs a pearloid pickguard and white pick ups now :D

Great job! I also dig the lil Marshall stack in the background.

looks terrific! How did you spray it? Is it clear coated?

Looks great. What paint did you use? I do the same thing after cleared/cured/wetsand, I don't buff it out super mirror like shiny. Did fender forget to use grain filler or primer or was it just a paint defect? Looks much better and no one can do a better job that the owner ;)

I did a few using reranch.com nitro with great results. Its a lot of tedious labor work yet rewarding when it come out right.

Yes that's a Marshall mini fridge. I used base coat/ clear coat and sprayed it with a SATA RP gun. It had primer and grain filler on it. The finish was just way too thick like maybe it got repainted at the factory a time or two maybe due to defects.

It was probably a bad batch of grain fill to begin with causing delam. Great work Man. I assume you did your spraying outside? Tough with so many particles in the air but not the best idea in the house without a proper spraying area. Doing a body isn't too bad but a neck through is a pain in the ass. Looks great. Did you use a drill to buff?

I did in in my garage. No I didn't use a drill I have a Snap-on buffer. I was a collision repair and paint tech for 20 years so I'm fully equipped.

Exactly why I'm refinishing mine. It was a CAR finish, I'm going to do it over again but MUCH thinner. When I got through the red finish, there was a black paint under it. I'm not sure if the guitar was resprayed or they used a black primer, regardless, it was WAY too thick. Knocking on the body got a dull thud, now that the finish is off it actually resonates when you tap it.

Tight work!
