Hi Guys, I'm new to the forum. I have just recently bought a VH4 and it is a fantastic amp. I only have one problem and that is the use of effects through the either loop. My previous rig was a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier, I used to us a TC Electronics G Major through the loop, the sound was ok, but I was never totally satisfied with it, so I replaced the effects with a TC Nova Modulator & TC Nova Delay. They sounded great with the boogie, however all of the TC stuff I own sounds awful through the VH4. I can understand phasing issues with the G Major, but not with the Nova pedals, can anyone advise me on either new pedals / rackmounts or how to set up my current configuration

set up
Wah Wah - Tuner - Tube Screamer - OCD - VH4 - (either G major or Nova Pedals (loop) Pwr amp section - 2x12 cab

Cheers
Steve

Ive used a TC GMajor since 2004 with all my Diezels & had zero issues. Simple & effective. Also used a Lexicon & Eventide ( need a Ph.d to operate on the fly ) and they sounded damn good. Just a pain in the ass.

Hi, I haven't been able to get rid of phasing issues with the TC, is there any particular way you've set yours up to stop this ??

i ran it into the loop...never had any phasing issues with it. Interesting

Do you use it in loop 1 (serial) or loop 2 (parallel)?

If you run parallel I think there is a killdry function in the newer gmajors. Mine doesn't have that function so I just run the gmajor in the serial loop and switch it in and out with a gcx.

Hi I've tried both, the sound it really bad. I thought using the serial loop I wouldn't get any phasing issues, but it happens with both the Nova pedals & the G Major, amp is brand new and been checked, all seems fine with it

I can't help you either then. I don't have any phasing issues. I know that setting the proper levels helps with the sound quality. I really can't stand the dry tone running through the gmajor so I switch it out of the loop when its not activated... does patching just a single cable from send to return in your effects loop sound bad too?

Read the TC Manual regarding the "Kill Dry" function. It needs to be on for the serial loop and off for the paralell.

0 problems with the VH4 and G-Major.

Can you advise me on how to set the proper levels please, is this a global function or for each individual effect?
When you say switch it out of the loop, do you mean from the VH4 or TC
I will patch the cable through tomorrow, but I'm pretty sure I've tried that when I first got the amp as a level boost

and thanks for all you advice guys

per patch and globally. The global volumes are small knobs on the front of the gmajor. I just set it so that when the unit is bypassed the level is the same as when its in the loop. I use an external switcher (voodoo lab's GCX) to switch it out. You can use any true bypass loop to do this. Another way to switch it out (manually) is to unplug your effects loop! Please check the killdry function's settings in your Gmajor's menus.

No problem on the advice. I wish I could better guide you. The only way I could really help more is to have your amp and your gmajor in front of me.

have no problems with tc g-system/nova system and vh4. have to use the serial loop though!

Killdry or global FX mix. Im rather sure this issue is completely a setting problem.
