Delay Pedals Muffled in FX Loop: Why?

I have a BFG modded Egnater Seminar HEad that rips, and I just tried the FX loop with my Boss DD-3 and Duncan Vapor Trail and they are both muddy and muffled! Why are they sounding like this? Is it a bad loop or is it meant for rack FX gear and not pedals?

Any help or thoughts is appreciated. I LOVE the amp and would be willing to put a new loop in it if need be.

Cheers!

Mark

Thanks, guys.

I looked at old emails when Brian with BFG did the mod and he said it's line level, so it's a tube effects loop set for rack gear.

What are my options? is there a converter pedal I could use?

What if I installed the Metro Zero Loss FX Loop? ...Would that be changing it from tube to solid state loop? If so, would that change the sound or tone of the amp at all? I DEFINITELY don't want to do that.

I tried the delay in my Splawn loop and it was perfect.

Thoughts?

Have you tried running delay out front? If you don't care for it in front of the amp, try a delay pedal that can handle a line level signal.

Egnater stuff is often line level in the loop.....You can get a cheap Ebtech Line Level Shifter and then continue to use your pedals....

Yup! I heard back from Brian with BFG and he said it's line level and changing the tube loop would change the amp a bit and that's the last thing I want to do: it rips!! I wish Brian had started his own amp line.

I will look into this Ebtech LLS. How does it work? I can't seem to find anything on the web that shows to to plug it in.

Cheers!

It's a simple thing where you plug your -10 in one slot and it comes out +4 in another and straight back into your amp

-LINE LEVEL MIXER-(it does so much more than what you want)-
-maybe its time to get the junk off the floor & have a small rack.... -???-

I just tried the TC Flashback and it is not working. Same thing: muffled! It is supposed to work with line level.

I tried the dip switches in all configurations and that did nothing...

well, I just bought the TC Flashback and it is doing the same thing in the loop: muffled. I tried all configurations of the dip switches and even put in a brand new tube in the loop and it's muffled and doesn't work.

I have a high gain amp and don't know what to do. I guess I should run th delays out front. I don't use delays often at all; we play straight up rock.

Any advice? I'm not sure a line level converter will do the trick, but i'll try one, but don't wanna spend a lot.

Does anyone have a TC FLashback or Vapor Trail and run either of those in front of their high gain amp??

Help!

I have a flashback and have tried other pedal delays and also find that they don't sound great in the loop, although the eventide timefactor sounds very good in the loop probably because it has a switch for line level

I don't want a large pedal, unfortnately, so I know that limits my options. Hence, I'd like to know how folks run their Delay pedals up front. Thanks!!

I have a Strymon Timeline and thought why did it not sound so prominent ( buffered loop) tried a new a new tube ,parallel, series etc and broke down and bought a Eventide Timefactor set it to line level and it sounds killer wish a would have done this sooner ..

I had this problem with an amp and running a buffer in the loop before the pedals fixed it. Something like the TrueTone buffer is what I used. But I think that was happening with true bypass pedals. The Boss is buffered already. But may be worth a shot.

Otherwise have you tried running a short cable only in the loop? Maybe the loop itself has an issue. It should sound fine with only a cable. Although, after listening carefully I have noticed some small amount of high frequency loss when using a loop, even with a cable only. Seems even the great amps don't have 100% perfect loops. But it wasn't to the point I would complain.

In the case that did happen to an extreme the buffer fixed it.
