I cant seem to find the delay topic about all of the rack mounted delay's?

Im trying to go for that lush full note-filling delay used on leads only.

anyone have anything they would recommend that would sound simillar to the D-Two from TC?

thinking about grabbing one but not sure what else is out there.

TAOT

what about roland SDE units?

or Korg SDD units?

i was thinking of lexicon PCM 41's or 42's but they dont have enough delay time for what im looking for, plus they are really hard to find :(

i dont need the midi controlling features or the loops of a 2290, it has alot of features i couldnt take full advantage of for the money.

really digging the sounds coming from this one too

Hey that's my vid

Still got the Providence, but while it is on the board and used for cleans, I prefer rack units for the tone you're after. I snagged a Korg DL8000R recently for cheap and it's far superior to any mid prized, current delay units out there IMO. Programming can be a bit complex, but once you get the hang of it, it can do loads of stuff. Really great mod capabilities too and several independent delay lines if needed, as well as 10 sec total capacity.

Korg used on both these vids:

i went to your channel and recognized the steavens amplifier and said hey thats a rig-talk member!

i was going to PM you what you thought of the korg vs the providence but couldnt remember your RT name

thanks for piping in, i could see applications for both of what you mean. the providence from the clips seems to be great at delays but very stale/dry sounding - no frills so to speak. but what i really love about the providence (that eventides cant do IMHO) is the transparency to the original tone - the providence JUST adds delay without colouring the original tone which is awsome IMHO

maybe find a way to modulate the delays before the providence? the notes stay very full it seems, just the unit lacks some of the features found in the rack models.

open for anything anyone has to say, im all ears

Well, usually modulation in delays is done by altering the delay time. However, if you ran the Providence 100% wet (which it can do with a dummy plug in the dry out), you could experiment with a chorus or something.

Are you after a pedal or a rack? Or doesn't it matter?

I don't find the Providence stale at all, it's kind of 80s top notch HiFi, if you know what I mean, very 2290 like.

However, I found it kind of disappeared a lot with the band (2 guitars). I can hear the DL8000R much better in the mix (which can be good or bad I suppose).

Indeed the original tone is virtually unchanged in the Providence (also the mixer in it is analog), whereas the DL8000 brightens it up a bit. Instead of using the DL8000s true bypass (relay switched) I use an "empty" program as bypass, to keep the tone constant. Love it this way with my Cornford head.

pedal or rack, but if i go rack with all of the added features it would be nice to have MIDI, but i know alot of the greater sounding delay's dont have it that originated from the 70's and 80's.

im trying to go for that 80's lush sound. ALA def leppard, which is why i was looking at the D-two originally.

naturally im looking at time period equipment but i dont have the budget for the lexicon 42's, 41's, or the 2290.

really dont have a clue what else to look for. i wish the providence had more features, it would be perfect :aww:

you leave yours on? i actually did the same thing with the G-major i used - always kept it on and used the bypass button recalled on MIDI to allow for simillar tones on all channels. it worked out nicely.

This would be killer: https://cgi.ebay.com/Lexicon-PCM-42-basi ... 0578231583

Actually the BIN price is not too bad.

yeah you're right, but i also went to HRI and did some research and now know why you chose the korg

the lexicon's dont have enough delay time available, no MIDI or storing methods, and the price is up there. just does not offer enough for me to warrant buying one of them let alone two. (to make up for the max available delay time)

the korg has two LFO's, multi-tap delay processing (feature the D-two has), is hard bypass, multiple delay layering capability, modulating effects, and is fully MIDI. it also sounds great in your videos.

ill be keeping my eye out for one for sure. thanks for the help
