It does sound good but I would say the gain was too high for all three of those examples. The low strings were all too smeared (For lack of a better description) from saturation for those tones. But as you said you can definitely hear that growl is still there. That was with the 4 gain stage input? Where was the pre set? With the mod can the amp still do those stock JMP, Pre at 5-6 classic rock tones?
Damn good question.
Thanks for listening and the feedback. Stock Tones? That is an easy fix with a Soldano type Cold Clipper (10k stock value) on a switch on the first cathode on low input. Could be a nice option among many to add. Usually it is can you drop the voltage, two way clipper, clean channel that doesn't pop, voice control for resonance/Depth/Deep/Thump control etc...
Or...If it’s too much gain for a guy they can always plug into the low input for three stages. And you can roll back the volume of the guitar and amp gain just a bit.
The gain was set all the way to 10.
There are variations that can be dialed in on the amplifier of course. I haven’t had any requests for a stock circuit tone in a high gain build but I know a couple of other builders that do so.
There are many ways to skin a cat. Anyone interested in work would just have to ask and it could be worked out most likely.
Thank you for your input, David
