I played a used Diamond Spec Op today and thought it sounded pretty good. I played rectifiers for years and recently switched to a Splawn. But lately, I have been yearning for that old HEAVY, CHUNKY low end, high gain thang. Although it is modern sounding, the el34s make the lead tones sound very nice. I noticed it was a little fizzy but I think that could be dialed-out with a little tweaking. Does anyone have any experience with one of these amps?? Do you like it, hate it? I can pick it up for around $1,700. Is that a good deal? Need your help. Thanks.

I don't know which Splawn you're using but it certainly shouldn't be fizzy. You may need to crank it a bit more because Splawns hate being run quietly, at least mine did. I tried the Spec Op out a few times and for modern hard rock and metal it'd be great but I don't seeing it being able to do much else. It's a tad cold and harsh. I prefered the Nitrox. $1700 isn't a bad price, they go for $2k new.

It can be...but I noticed that amp has to be run pretty hot as well to start sounding good. It's why I'm starting to move to small watt amps that I can push and not be defended by

from your description, it sounds like you should be looking at a Triple Rectifier?

i have one you can have for 1500 plus shipping.. it's listed on here too..

Too late...I pulled the trigger this afternoon. It sounds KILLER!! The most unbelievable thing is the clean channel. I've never hads an amp with a clean channel that sounds this good. I spent the first hour or so fooling with it. Channel 2 is where its at though and the more you crank it, the fatter it sounds. It sounds nothing like any of the youtube clips I've seen. It is much warmer and not nearly as abrasive. I ordered a CCM-100 about 6 months ago, so hopefully this should hold me over till (if) it arrives!! Thanks everyone for the input.

By the way, I have to plug the store I bought it from: Boutique Guitar Exchange in Atlanta, http://www.boutiqueguitarexchange.com/
