Did EVH use a variac with his Jose Mod'd Marshall?

I've got solid information that "yeddie" used a jose modded variac straight into the marshall
the variac was wired with a 330uF flux capacitor that would oscillate the pickups output voltage according to his playing so the tubes got so overloaded that the sound would come out from the amps bumblebee transformers and the drummer could use the back of the head as a stage monitor
they did some serious crazy shit back in the day

EVH: "I have lots of 'em. Most of them are old Marshalls -- the tube ones. I use a variable voltage transformer, and, using this, you can go from 110 volts to 150 volts. I make it overdrive. It takes it from 100 watts to 160 watts. Those tubes must get really hot. But it give me that sound I love! (Laughs) So I usually use six to eight amp heads, but if I play an hour or more, those tubes get so hot they blow up. They start a fire. (Laughs) So I have to change the tubes everyday or get shocked or catch on fire."

Another question someone might ask is, did he turn it up (The voltage) for the first four albums and then start turning it down, because it was such a pain in the ass to maintain, (Having to always have a separate rig for when his first one went down) or was it lowered the whole time? ;) S
 
Dave mentioned that EVH requested the amplifier be biased with regards to a variac set to 90V on the primary for his number one right before their first reunion tour. Pretty sure that thread still exists somewhere on RT. I am sure you can ask Dave as well if you would like?

Ed admitted last year he lied his ass off in that GP interview ...
 
I read (and why the hell did I bother?) that DLR told EVH to make up stuff about his gear to make things more interesting in interviews. Apparently he felt bad that people were blowing up their amps because he said he boosted the voltage while he actually turned the voltage down (to about 110v ?)
