I don't like any of the political options going right now, so I don't care if everyone knocks themselves out over politics or religion at all.
A couple of things to remember about forums and members of them.
1) You agreed to the forum rules when you joined. If they change them and you object, then you can bail, or abide by the new rules. Pretty simple logic.
2) No one said you got to have a say in the rules just because you joined.
3) If you don't like the rules, start your own forum, pay to host it, weed out everything you don't like being said, or respond to it as much as you want. Ban people at will, flame them as well. It's your money you get to decide how things run, problem solved, right?
4) You don't pay to be here, that alone entitles you to...oh yeah, nothing.
5) There are no 1st, 2nd or any amendment rights on forums. You gave that all up when you joined.
I know some members think they should be "allowed" to say whatever they want. Well, that's just not the way it goes. You can get away with that for awhile, until management notices, gets pissed off at your disruptive posts/opinons/whatever, and then the hammer comes down.
I guess respect for the hosts of the forum weren't part of your big picture. Here's some news, it is for them, and if you abuse it, gee whiz, topics/posts/members get deleted/banned/restricted.
I'm not sure why this is so hard to understand, but every guitar gear forum I know of that hasn't descended into a out of control pissing match has banned political and religious discussions.
Just an observation of the facts according to forum rules I've seen over the last 15 years or so.
But like I said, if you don't think it's right, start your own forum, and have at it.
I imagine you'll pay around $800-1000 per year minimum, plus moderating the posts, giving up your life to respond, lose your job over your need to spend way too many hours policing your forum because it's the right thing to do, and as your unemployment runs out you'll likely say "Crap, that was a bad move."
But hey...if that's important to you, go for it.
I like to talk about guitars/gear/amps, so you won't see me at your political/religious/whatever forum.
