Yeah I saw these....not a lot of info out there on them yet. I'm really interested in the Blackface preamp. Seems like a great solution for those who have an amp with a great gain channel with a weak clean.....cool upgrade. It seems to sound great but need more clips and street price.

own 2 of the chamemleon blackface models. the older models and they frickn kill. these new ones look and sound great, but why not have those all in one unit?

ditto

I have 3 cham's (1 black/2 on-line) - I almost sold them a few years back

Thank God I decided to sell my Randall MTS rid instead :worship:

with advent newer amp sims & IR's my chameleon's are once again
the main part of my rig

Those chameleon preamps are dsp based units, these newer valvesonic pres are supposed to be analog tube preamps. No rotary encoders, but analog potentiometers.....you'd need a two spaced unit a la the 3+ preamp to make em' all fit in one chassis.

True story, back in the '94 - '95 timeframe, I was an early web developer when pictures were new to HTML. I owned and used a Chameleon (plugged into the effects return of my Marshall Jubilee 2X12), and figured out how to use a sequencer to capture Chameleon patches and share them over the internet.

I built Rocktron's first web site as a proof of concept, and pitched them the "patch bay". We were working out payment, and there was a restructuring at Rocktron. The guy I was working with disappeared, Rocktron took the site online and used the patch bay. What I got in return was the notoriety of the first 10 or 12 patches on the Chameleon Online version being the ones I developed.

I still have my old Chamelon and break it out now and then. It does higher gain better than clean, but isn't that the way with most modeling amps?

That's a great story! Aside from the money they still owe you plus interest! :)

Ok, got some info from Rocktron today about these.

All of the preamps in the valvesonic series have 4 preamp tubes
Street price will be 699
The plexi pre coming in june with the blackface to follow.

I wonder if these are what became of the valvesonic they announced but never shipped last year. Been waiting to buy one of those since they announced it, maybe I'll get one of these instead.

Maybe you should tell Rocktron that they might want to list these new preamps on their website? You know, if they intend to actually sell them.

They decided to can it and make 3 separate preamps instead. Saw that on their FB page a while back.

I used their tube piranha pre amp rack in the past and got some great tones with it.
The plexi one has my interest but there is virtually NO INFO on them anywhere?

The Plexi one interests me a lot. But $700 is a lot of change of a one trick preamp.

Not that it matter but are these not just Modular
Preamps like Egnater SL2 VX Twin
They look a lot like it tight bright switches
It's also interesting to note frank lamara
Was Bruce Egnater original partner with the mod series
This isn't really new same type stuff IMO
