Diezel cab and speaker question....

I have the chance to pick up a really awesome Diezel 2x12 cab, I've always wanted one, however I have a couple issues/questions.

The cab is half open back, and loaded with tone tubby speakers, I don't know the model, there is a blue sticker on the back of the magnet with an arm flexing (bicep)... Don't know if that helps anything....

It is the most harsh sounding cab I have ever heard in my life, the best way I would describe it is how a high gain amp sounds on it's highest gain channel with the gain dimmed, that high end fizz that gets added is pretty much present at all times, no matter what settings you set the amp to.

I tested more than one head through the cab so I know it wasn't the head, my main question, which I think i know the answer to but wanted to make sure, is this something that is an inherent trait of the Tone Tubby speakers? Or is this normal for a 2x12 half open back cabinet?

The cab is rear loaded as well, figured I should mention that, if it's a speaker thing I will most definitely take the plunge and grab the cab and swap the speakers, but if it's more the characteristics of the cab I think I'll pass, any input would be awesome, thanks fellas!!

Getting the rating on this cab would be goal No.1

After that, if the ratings on these TT speakers is sufficient to handle the in-power, try closing that back up. Closed backs are just the biz for most music. I find blues and jazzier styles dig open back cabs. But for most everything else, closed back tends to work with the most consistency in most applications.

Hope this helps,
V.

I think it was running at either 8 or 16 ohms, can't remember which is bugging me now, would closing the back up really change all the top end fizz that was coming through the speakers? I mean in all honesty it was really bad, and it seemed pretty apparent that it was coming straight out of the speakers rather than a more tone as a "whole" if that makes sense.

Unfortunately there is no way to close the cab up as of right now, as far as low end and how "big" the cab sounded, it was incredible in every way, but man that top end was just way too harsh, fizzy, buzzy, yuck.

Thanks for the reply, I guess I'm just looking for any reassurance that it's more than likely the speakers, even though i understand it's pretty difficult for someone to tell me one way or the other given the limited info I'm providing.

Thanks for the reply regardless V, appreciate it.

Man, I wanna hear this... Can you post some clips or PM some clips at low and mid volume?? Name the amp, and is there a wattage rating on these speakers outside of the blue bicep??

Peace,
V.

Sadly I don't have it here with me, I haven't purchased it yet, a local seller has it, I went by today to test it out expecting amazing results and was just left completely underwhelmed and a bit disappointed, seeing as how i have zero experience with Tone Tubby speakers that's the reason I'm thinking that's the difference, I have a hard time imagining that the Diezel cab with some different speakers would sound bad, but that goes without saying, it's a bit difficult to believe it sounds bad as is, i want the cab SO bad, it literally made my Marshall 4x12 sound like a toy, no joke....

Thanks for your continued replies, im at such a crossroads but i may just take the plunge regardless and swap/trade the speakers, I have a terrible picture of the speakers, not sure how much it would help, the Tone Tubby speakers don't say anything on the back of them, just the picture of the arm.

If it doesn't sound good to you, don't buy it. Buy a closed back Diezel instead with some other speakers.

IMHO the Tone Tubbies are great speakers...just different. Work really well in a band setting...cut like crazy. Alone..they were sketchy to me. Didnt like it with the VH4 tho...too bright. Preferred with the Herbert. But i eventually went back to V30/K100 combo as my go to.

Pauly kinda nailed the secret sauce recipe right there....V30 and G12K100s, can't go wrong. Not that it's the BEST combo out there, but for sure it's one you can always, like your favourite hot sauce, have on yer table and it'll rock TFO.

Peace,
V.
