Hi Everyone,

Been recording with my einstein combo for a couple of months now and its been great.

However on our latest session the mics started picking up this slightly grainy sound and at some points there is some serious crackling as well. pre-amp on the mics is at sensible levels and I'm hearing the same sound on both mics so dont think its them(D112 and SM57).

I've attached a sound file of it. its most noticable around 12, 33 and 50 seconds in but you can definitely hear something isnt right all the way through.

The other guy i'm recording with reckons it might be the speaker as at all 3 points where its most noticable, its on the same chord being played so maybe its struggling with a particular frequency? Anyone else come across this problem before/suggestions of what i could/should do?

Thanks,

Alex

Ok thanks Peter. Anyone you could recommend in the UK who could diagnose exactly whether its the tubes or speaker that needs replacing?

Thanks again,

Alex

Hey, this sounds great though. Reminds me of one of my favourite records, from Justin Sane. Which guitar/ mic did you use? Is it the stock V30? Could you tell me your settings? Thanks a lot, and good luck with getting your problem fixed!!!

Does the crackling occur on all channels?

Try at least swaping some preamp tubes to see if you can find a bad one....

I strongly can recommend James Leader for more information
in the UK.

Thanks for all your comments/suggestions, I've had it with James for the last few days now who has been really helpful.

We tried plugging it into an extension cab and that made it a bit better but we could still hear some rattling. We've tried replacing the tubes and also removed the reverb plate. James has managed to eliminate the rattling within the mid range freq but on bassier notes its still there. Its not noticable when playing loud/live but it gets picked up by mics when recording.

Settings were on the clean channel,
Deep 0
Bass - 12
Mid - 12
Treb- 12
Presence 12
Gain 11.30
Volume - 10
Master - cant remember, sorry but it was definitely below 12
Ran a Durham Sex Drive in front of it
Mics were SM57 and D112 and guitar was a PRS Mccarty

Is it possible to send the amp to Bad Steben ?

Having had another session with James last night it seems the only thing now making a noise is the slight rattling of the tubes themselves.
i'm recording again on Sunday so will see what happens now we've eliminated most of it. If its still noticable on the stems i'll look to either ship it out to you or maybe just get an extension cab to separate the tubes from the speakers.

To have an absolutely clean record I would
use an extension cap
