Diezel Herbert Questions

Hi All...I'm actually a producer..(i watch other guys play my amps!)
I currrently own (for high gain stuff)..an Engl Se...Rivera K tre....Rivera K-7....Vht Sig X....Cammeron modded marshalls
I keep hearing rav's of the Herbert...Where does this puppie fit in to what i have?
Has anyone played the above mentioned amps and the Herbert?
Looking for some feedback!

The Herbert is a lead machine. Nothing compares to it for leads.

Welcome Man!
I've owned 3 of Peter Diezel's amps (Herbert, VH4 and my current Einstein)
From my experience the Herbert fits into the Mesa Recto-Engl SE realm.
I always called it the Recto KILLER, it is the Top dog in the Modern Tone area.
Very Thick, Clear and Punchy, this amp kills for Modern Metal. Has a compressed
nature a low volumes, but when you open her up and let it breath,
you better have fire insurance (180 Watts) You can dial it in many ways to personal taste
but really shines when allowed to Breath in a Heavy Rock/Metal situation.
Has probably one of the best clean channels I've ever heard, right up there
with the Custom Audio OD100SE+, Fender and Two Rock. Very Chimey and Crystalline
sounding, the notes sparkle on channel 1. Channel 2 W/Mid-cut is my Favorite, this
channel kills, trust me. Ch. 3 is more of ch. 2 with more gain, liquid leads.
Then you have the Midcut option on all 3 channels, giving you 6 different
tonal options in essence.
The build quality is second to none, you won't find a better quality amp, period.
I know there are custom PTP wired amps that command a HUGE price, but for
the money you spend on a Diezel you get every penny's worth, built like a Tank!
I'm sure I missed some great points, I hope some other KILLER, Diezel players here

Yes it's different enough, I had a Herbert and Engl se both at the same time for over a year, they sound different in the voicing, the gain and mids are different and so is the feel and attack. Yes they are both high gain that are saturated and compressed but they don't sound the same to my ears. I really like both amps.
 
I've owned all those amps, excpet the KR-7 - still have the Herbert. Inca Roads described the Herbert well. Newer VH4s (2007 or later) are awesome amps as well. Lots of gain, but not quite as saturated/compressed as the Herbert. Way tighter and a little less modern/hi-fi sounding. It would definitely be less similar to what you have than the Herbert. The Herbert was my favorite amp for over 2 years until I go my VH4 a few months ago. In stereo, they :rock:
 
My Herbert is my go to amp. It is intimidating in all scenarios. I mostly use it with an Earcandy Buzzbomb ported 2 by 12 cabinet. I also love that it is 3 channel and Midi ! Works perfect with my Access electronics switching systems .

If you're looking to get something really soon, go with the Herbert as its definitely unique enough from the others you listed.

If you can wait a little while, Fortin amps is coming out with a new high gain monster called Natas later this year. It will be the sickest metal amp ever conceived.
 
yeah, Inca's description was spot on. I own a Herbert, and recently picked up an SE. They are definitely in the same ballpark, but different enough to justify owning both IMO. Different overall voicing, the Herbert is darker to me, while the SE has that ENGL brightness to it. Both have some great lowend clarity, fast riffs down low stay nice and articulate. The SE attack seems more immediate to me, while the Herbert has a bit of sag to it that really adds to the feel. The big open chords just snarl, swirl and bloom really nicely with the Herbert. Herbert is still my favorite amp, but the SE is rapidly climbing the list as I'm learning how to actually use it. :doh:

The Fortin amp sounds like it's going to be a monster too, Mike knows his stuff, I'm excited to hear it. :thumbsup:

Yeah Man, as a fellow High Gain Amp Whore, I really want
to hear the "Fortin Natas" also. I hope it delivers, 'cause I'm
definitely in the Market for another High Gainer. :rock:
 
well it looks like everyone here has already helped you out lol. the one thing i will say is dont discount the thing in mid gain settings. im a session player by trade and it freaks producers out when i get really good low-mid gain tones out of a "metal" amp :D
