I currently owned an ENGL Special Edition 6L6 and considering to get a Diezel Herbert amp.

I understand both are metal amps & sound compressed. If I buy a new Herbert, will it comes with 6L6 tubes or EL34? :-)

A lot of people said Diezel Einstein is one of the best tone in Diezel amps.... does Einstein has better lead voices than Herbert?

Also, can Herbert copy the Texas channel which available on Einstein?

Thanks.. any suggestion will be highly appreciated :)

IMO there is no comparision betwen the Herbert and the Einstein. Herbert everytime.

I have owned both the SE and the Herbert. I currently still own the Herbert, because it rapes the SE in every possible regard IMO. :D

The Herbert sounds more organic, has bigger bottom end and tons less sizzle. It is not nearly as compressed, especially channel 2 which is my favorite channel by leaps and bounds.

I was an ENGL user for a long time, and still have one of their pro cabs. In fact here are a couple pics of my engl stuff just to show you how serious I was about their amps.

There is no comparison between the two in my humble opinion. Diezel is a better company to deal with, the warranties are better, the products are built better and the sound is nothing short of amazing.

Regarding the lead sound:
Depends on how loud you play IMO. Herbert has a better lead tone when played really loud, when the Einstein looses it's coolness at really high volumes. At low to medium volumes the Einstein does have a better lead sound for more touch sensitive playing IMO.

Regarding the Texas mode:
No, it can't.

Don't have an SE, but do have a Powerball. To me, Diezel and Engl hi gain sounds similar as they both have that clear, dryer gain with the absence of fizz. The difference between my Powerball and Herbert, the Herb is that much clearer, more organic, and a tad better bottom end. A guy thinks Engl has a really clear/clean hi gain, until you play a Diezel. :2thumbsup:

I will say my Engl Powerball sounds better at really low volumes, mainly due to the more "processed" sound.

Many thanks to SwampDonkey and all you guys.. for being very helpful, I love this forum :-)

One more question: which one have more low end... Einstein or VH4? :)

Thanks!

NOT!

You got some bad information.

I have litteraly played the ENGL SE and the Diezel Herbert side by side and the Herbert Pwns the Engl. I can also say however that either claim of the einstein not being as good, or being better is also untrue. I have both heads and have a good ear for tone. The einstein and the herbert both have similar voicings but distinct characteristics. I love the lead channels on both, but when pushed at concert volumes i prefer the Herbert for solos.. ...UNLESS its for bluesy bonamassa'ish leads. The einstein is a KILLER bluesy, jam band amp. ..and im a rock guy all the way. It definitely does both well .. I cant say enough about either amp. i really am in love every time i turn on my diezels. Unbelievable quality and tone. The sky is the limit. Just make sure you have the right speaker configuration

Yep..maybe ch4 on Vh4 feels more compressed and difficoult to dial in.
Anyway..why Engl always put a noise gate in their amps?....maybe unplayable without?... :scared: :D

the ENGL Blackmore I owned sounds awesome with high gain settings, and is not more noisy than my Herbert.
However, I now use the ISP ProrackG dual channel noisegate with the Herbert, and it is completely silent ;)

I don't use any type of noise gate with my Herbert, and I have zero noise issues. Both my Powerball and my SE had to have the on board noisegate engaged AND had to use a Decimator to quell the noise. YMMV.

btw it is not excessive noise I'm talking about, just standard high-gain + high-volume side effects, like whenever you're not playing on any of the strings....I like to have the amp be silent when holding the strings, without having to turn down the vol knob on the guitar ;) very useful for live applications!
