hi

I am in the market for a Friedman amp. I play 80's metal (dokken, ratt, motley crue...). what is the difference between the SS, JJ and BE100 amps?
I already have a Splawn nitro (which I love!!!) but I want a more vintage sounding amp to add to my collection. Sold my trusty triple rectifier for this..

I am planning to test the SS, JJ and the BE100 as well as the Splawn quickrod

Which of these amps would fit my style of music the most? Which is more versatile?

best regards

Michael

JJ, all the way. The BE is not a metal amp but could do the 80s glam stuff with the HBE. its a rock amp, so is the SS. The JJ is killer and has a BE channel and clean in it.

The BE100 is what I'd use for 80s metal.
I've owned the BE100, Smallbox and now have the JJ100, which is a more modern sounding amp.

thanks! the BE 100 looks like a very versatile amp...
BE-100 Owners don't talk much about it, But the Clean Channel its Awesome Too!

I've just got my JJ dialled in, I'd say it was on par from a pure filth perspective with most high gain Amps, it just doesn't compress like 5150's or Rectifiers, neither does it get all 'fizzy'.... It's got tons of gain, massive balls but also retains amazing clarity and single note definition.

is the SS just as good a fit as the BE for 80's metal?

the SS does 80's ten fold!!! It's a Great rock to metal amp!!

It's the plexi channel on the Small Box I can't live without...cleans up wonderfully with a little roll down of the volume on the guitar. I think the Small Box is more vintage sounding or voiced than the others. It's just a great amp...G.A.S. ender for me.

i can imagine the SB is great at that - thats one thing that ive always loved about the SS...it really cleans up amazingly well for me and can get chimey

All three are damn near perfect amps for what they are designed to do. Just play them all and pick one or two or three or four :) I own all three and in addition to the Smallbox and love them all equally for different reasons! Dave is just a really talented dude with a great ear...

The tune in my signature is the BE and SS. SS was used on the Lead.
