I'm trying to integrate my GSP1101 (C63 beta updated) into my new Sig: X rig and am having issues. I want to run 4cm and here's my chain:

Guitar-->EH Signal Pad-->Digitech Whammy IV-->EH POG2-->Boss SD-1

All of this goes into the GSP1101, which runs 4cm (amp out from GSP into guitar input on Sig X, then the loop connected accordingly).

I currently have my loop set to series and lo, as i found this gave less noise than the high sensitivity which is recommended in the Sig X manual for most rack gear.

The problems: Lots of noise! I'm talking additional hum on cleans, and hum, hiss, and feedback on high gain. The other issue is that I'm losing some tone--it loses a lot of low end and overall fullness and almost sounds nasally on the higher gain settings. I'm not using any of the amps in the Digitech, just the amp sounds from the Fryette.

I want the Digitech integrated into the loop for its delays, reverbs, and gates. In front I use it mainly for the wah, which I find sounds better than my Crybaby. The front end effects sound fine and when my effects loop isn't engaged, things sound fine.

I've tried switching to parallel which gave the expected phasing issue and didn't resolve the noise, and I've tried adjusting the send levels from the amp and the output level from the GSP to no avail. I'm really confused as to what's wrong.

I haven't tried a side by side comparison with another amp yet, but everyone raves about the Sig X loop. I used to use the GSP with my UL, but I was using IEM for that and had the power amp off on the UL so that I could run silently from the speaker sim XLR outputs on the GSP. The few times I ran it at volume I didn't notice any issues with the sound.

I'm trying to figure out the best way to integrate this. The tone loss and noise are turning into dealbreakers for me on the GSP, but I really like the effects it offers.

I've tried removing all of my front end effects to no avail. It's like a night and day different between having the GSP in the loop or not.

Any pointers here to resolve the issue? I'm confounded and am still relatively new to the GSP. It's really disappointing me right now.

Have you checked the cables?

I know you checked the levels in the GSP but I am guessing that if the cables are good, the issue is probably in a level somewhere.

I use the RP1000 (same brain as the GSP) and had to tinker around with some internal levels but was able to get it work flawlessly after a bit.

did you try setting the GSP up for 4CM using the setup wizard on the device itself?

sometimes setting things via the wizard can set things right (levels and other things)

I tried using a GSP1101 in 4cm with my SLO and a couple Marshalls, I encountered coloration with it as well. I didn't have any noise issues but I wound up selling it and going back to my old stuff for effects.

Used the setup wizard.. That's not the issue. Gotta figure out how to mess with levels

I use an RP1000 in 4CM. It had a ground loop issue. It made a lots of noise, even on clean. But it was most difinitley a 60 hrtz cycle hum. You have to break the ground on the cables going to the loop. You can easily do this by unclamping the stress relief clamp on the cables going to the loop and putting electrical tape around the bare wire so it breaks the ground. That's the simplest way to explain it. There's an in depth thread on the Marshall forum about it. Or you can PM me and I can explain it further. As for loosing tone, I would have to say it could be the settings on the unit. Mine doesn't suck tone at all.
