DigiTech GSP1101?

I've been using one direct for the last 1.5 years with my coverband. Would love to replace it with a real rig but don't have the time to put one together.

They sound good, good as an AxeFX - no, but they still sound good. Different fx than a Gmajor, you get DM2 delay for example but no dual delays with different time control. One of the developers is putting out new firmware so it keeps getting developed and pushed further just not officially from Digitech.

Here is an example of my main rock settings, I use this patch for probably 80% of what we play (80's rock/top 40 covers), this from the mic on the Flip.

Sorry, dude. I've been away from my rig from waking up to bed time pretty much every day. sorry.

bad news.

I probably won't get any real time with it until next week. Work, gig, the lady, little 500, etc.

ned911, thanks for the info.

Gene, no worries on the time. I'm not planning to pull the trigger on anything soon (still paying off the plastic for the gear I've acquired to date!)

FWIW, I'm still saving for the Ultra. Doesn't sound like Cliff (Fractal Audio) will split the amp/cab and effects into two 1U rack units :(

In the interim, I'm looking at rack multi effects (and floor systems like G-System, Nova System) to see what the options are. The G-Sharp being discontinued and available new for $149 is compelling (its pedal priced!) I'm looking at any / all multi effect options. If the multi-effects have amp/cab sims even better, but I (FINALLY!) have my core tone solution working (thanks to Tech 21), so amp/cab sims (main reason why I want an Axe-Fx) are much less important now. Now, the focus is on good, versatile, software upgradable / supported mulit-effect units.

I have been gigging 3-4 nights per week for almost 2 years with my GSP 1101/Control2 rig and love it more every day. I have seriously not even considered wanting any traditional tube amps since I started using it. No, it's not the AXE (which I will own eventually), but it's 1/4 the price and absolutely the next best thing as far as I am concerned. I just send the XLRs direct to the PA and the I get complements on my tone at virtually every gig from other players, sound men and even just audience members. Dramatically better organic-sounding modeling than anything on the market, save, of course, the AXE. If you're using the 4cm, the stompbox tones alone are worth the price. They are EXCELLENT and I don't ever see myself going back to analog pedals, other than just for quick little jams or straight blues nights.

I have owned every type of MI, boutique, tube and MIDI rig imaginable over the last 25 years, and this is the best overall rig in terms of versatility, ease of use, tone and price I have ever had. On any given night, I use modern Country tones, classic rock crunch, heavy rock tones and EJ-style lush cleans and leads. I honestly can't imagine gigging without it. The upgrades at http://www.mustbebeta.com are GREAT!! The Orange lead tones are really unique and the hybrid Digi tones are very cool as well.

buddaman71, thanks for the info. I've been through several modelers, including the Axe-Fx Ultra (which is at the top of my list, again. dumbass move selling it) with mixed results. What I like about the 1101 is the ability to have an external preamp, and place internal effects before and after it. To get this feature is about $1400 or more with the G-System or Axe-Fx. AFAIK, the G-Major 2 doesn't let you configure it this way?

Good to hear the amp/cab models sound organic too. But I'm more interested in effects and placement, which for the price the 1101 makes sense.

Now the effect models on the 1101 seem limited, and mostly DigiTech based, no?

Seems all the multi-effect gear short of the Axe-Fx have some good / bad for me. A new 1101 is about $500 as you said, 1/4 of the Ultra price - so the spend is going to eat into my piggy bank Ultra fund. The TC Electronic G-Sharp, though not as comprehensive as the 1101, is $149 since its been discontinued - this is in pedal territory.

So?  :aww:

G Sharp is inexpensive, but has no pedal sims, only fx. As for the 1101 being limited, it does verbs, delays and mods, which is all I ever use, so I don't find it limited.

I couldn't care less for ring mods and all that useless crap, so it's fine for me.

Bread and buttah tones and fx. Pedal sims are the tits. Great unit.

The Lexicon MPXG2 does this too. The verbs / delays are amazing. I've used the "pedal effects" for sometime also. I really like the octafuzz...the "orange phaser (phase 90 clone)" in it is pretty good too. The gate on the MPXG2 is really really really good too! I've seen them go for 300-400 on the used market.

Eric, thanks. One more to add to the list! It looks like it has the routing flexibility that I want with pre and post effect placement around the internal or an external preamp. Are you using the MPX G2 now?

What about the Lexicon MPX1? or the current models, like the MX400?

I went down this path last year, and purchased the Axe-Fx Ultra. Now that I have my preamp/amp tones (thanks to Tech 21 gear) I'm really interested in a multi-effects unit more than a preamp / modeler with effects. G-Sharp is limited, but for the price, even if I use the reverb or delay only, its a good price.

buddaman71, I meant the pedal effect types seem limited to mostly DigiTalk models? I'd be using this as an effect unit (mostly reverb, some delay, little else, but having the ability to place the effects where I want them in the signal chain is important to me. e.g., I don't want to be forced to put the modulation effects after my preamp)

Yep I'm using the MPXG2 still. I own 3 of them!!! I've used the MPX1 also. But the MPX1 is similar to a Gmajor or GForce...etc. It doesn't do before the amp effects like the MPXG2 does.

The MPXG2 you can put effect blocks before or after your preamp. I really love the delays and verbs in the G2. I also really like the chorus, and the pedal-type effects (phasers, octafuzz, etc) before the amp. I owned a AxeFX Ultra...and it was awesome. But it's a tweakers paradise. I felt I tweaked more than I played. I really like the simplicity of the G2, and the tones are very good. Not as good as an AxeFX or Eclipse...but good enough. They are really good...I just couldn't justify $2k for an Ultra.
