actually i have, in one of my dean soltero's. it is a very hot pickup and would definately get you near that emg 85 tone, but it doesnt sound as sterile as an emg pickup. the awesome thing about this pickup is that it cleans up very nicely. i have the dimarzio x2n in the bridge with a d-activator x in the neck and couldnt be happier with the versatility. both pickups are coil tapped and sound great and singles or 'buckers, which really surprised me being how hot they are.
ya i have a x2n in the bridge i had a duncan i hated it had the paf hated it had the evo hated it. nothing compares to the 85 which i fell in love with but im not a huge fan of the 81 or active pickups at all. im gunna buy one friday and i hope i like it and its hot enough for me
it is definately hot. it matches the X2n nicely. i got the neck model and love it, but i have also heard of people using the d activator x bridge model in the neck for even more output ... although i couldnt see needing any more output than what already comes in the neck version
