My 2001 R8 has voodoo 59 pafs in bridge and neck. I received my MI Audio Crunch Box a couple of days ago and that pedal is flat out sick  Ive no intention of replacing the neck voodoo 59 pickup but am considering the purchase of a dimarzio super distortion for use in the bridge position to get closer to the level of intensity and saturation of John Sykes  tones on the 1987 whitesnake album.

Would using the super distortion with the crunch box be a good match and a step in the right direction ?

No get a Dirty Fingers or an Aldrich instead, the Super Distortion will not get you in Sykesville

+1 on the Dirty Fingers. I have one in my Sykes LP and it nails that tone prefectly.

Being that Sykes is one of my favorite players of all time and also being that I have got the 1987 sound pretty much dialed in, id say that you are better off getting yourself a Mesa Boogie MKIII amplifier. A chorus pedal and a front loaded cab with Mesa Boogie MC90 speakers. The amp and cab config has more to do with that tone then the pickups used IMHO (and of course Johns killer playing ;) )
