I broke out the Dream Evil CD yesterday and while there are some good songs, I just cannot get into Craig Goldy. Is it just me or is playing is kind of blah? He does sound better on Magica and Master of The Moon. There must of been a reason why I did not buy Dream Evil when it came out in 1987!!

I find his playing to be the same also..When he was on That Metal Show, he played some pretty standard licks as well..
Wow he must be really forgettable since I don't remember Craig Goldy playing on TMS lol

i want to like his playing.bjt i cant.i remember buying his first solo album years ago.it was awful.IMO,Dio made 3 great records(HD,TLIL,KTD.)The rest are blah.i thought rowan robertson was awful too.

I think I was so mad that dio replaced vivian that I couldnt let myself like him!

      Me too, but if he replaced him with someone of equal or better talent, I would not of minded.

I did not like that guys tone or playing. I saw Dio live with him as well. Did not like him. Dio was great though. All that mattered.

I saw that tour with Goldy and he was just awful live. Especially after seeing Dio twice with Viv.

IMO the best post Vivian Campbell Dio was with Doug Aldrich

Coincidentally the best post Vivian Campbell Whitesnake was with Doug Aldrich as well

I never got into Goldy--Viv was what made Dio to me-He was very influenced by Gary Moore and it shows

I remember reading that Graig used to use those old Marshall Valvestate amps. I used to have one. Not a bad amp but at this level... Why????

I picked up an old Guiffera (sic) record a while back because it was cheep. Goldy's on it. His playing and tone are much better on that album than the Dio stuff he did. Wasn't Dio very controlling of his guitarists? I read that's why he and Jake didn't move forward when they were together.

Gotta take Rowan in context though, he played some solid stuff for a 17/18 year old kid. That said Viv and Doug were his 2 best guitar players. Tracy G. was a bit of a bad ass too. Strange Highways is a good record IMHO.

There were a lot of guys using those back in the day. It was a popular amp for thrash.

I've seen Dio with Goldy a few times. He was a solid player with good stage presence. Not a fan of any of Dio's guitar tones really. The album that starts off with King of Rock and Roll was kinda cool.

After the first three albums, I had already moved on to other stuff.

I'll go against the grain a little because I love the dream evil album (mind you that is more the songs and not craigs playing i guess). I think the production is blah but I dig the songs....that could also be because of my age at the time (16yrs old and that record was the one being promo'd)

It is because of craig that I always wanted a warlock....mind you I have never bought on so that might tell you something as well

i'm confused

I didnt see Goldy with Dio but Im a big fan of Magica. I think thats a great album.

I did see Dio when Craig was with him. It caught me by surprise. I remember going to see Iron Maiden and Dio was opening. I was just telling my friend how bad ass Doug was and his sound on the new Dio album. When Dio came on, there was no Doug. I could not tell who was playing at the time. I know the guitar sounded like shit; it was dead. There was also no authority in his playing. I was very disappointed until Iron Maiden came on.
