Well, I just got my first Diezel in the mail Thursday, and its a VH4s!!! Suuuuper stoked, I've been longing for one of these bad boys for many years. As such was very excited to plug it in and let it shred. Upon picking it up from fed-ex location, I heard the sound of broken/clinky glass, my heart sunk as I assumed it was a busted tube of some sort, which means it would be another few weeks before I get to play it(re-tube, re-bias.) Turns out one of the power tubes had just gracefully fallen out of its socket and was clanking around. I checked for signs of damage to the tube, there was/is no immediate sign of damage. Hooked it up and it turned on and it worked 'great.' Scare number 1.

Scare number 2, the second day went to play it, the Diezel sound was unmistakably there, but the clarity/power/punch balls that I was expecting from my 3500 dollar purchase was not. When not a minute into playing it I heard a very unfriendly loud 'digital' crackling, not a tube related sound. My heart sunk again, "thats not right, somethings busted" I thought. So I shut it down, and pondered what was going on. I remembered the power in my house has always been finicky, and I've heard similar sounds from other amps I've played thru here, so assumed it was a power related issue. Long story short, I ended up buying a Monster surge protector/clean power strip, hooked the Diezel up thru that, and NIGHT and DAY difference! The Diezel sound with clarity/punch/balls and more was in full play!! So, I'm new to this scene, but one word of advice which may seem obvious, MAKE SURE you're hooked up to CLEAN power!!

The amp seems to be more than okay now, not sure what kind of damage under powering can cause? Anyone have any horror stories of such?

When the air conditioning at my house turns on I get the same "digital click" sound. I bought a line regulator and the issue is completely gone now.

Wow I spent almost 600 bucks for this furman https://www.musiciansfriend.com/accessor ... -regulator ,when I could have gotten one for 40 bucks at walmart.... Have you tested your APC with a multimeter to see if it is steady?

I've got a multimeter...but I haven't tested it.

I DID have a Furman with a volt meter...and it was rock steady at 120.
But we have pretty stable voltage around here.

Must be nice. The town I live in was smashed by a cat 4 hurricane (Charley) it made landfall here and destroyed just about everything in 2004. After that they used steel cables for all the power lines and have slowly began replacing them in the last 10 years but haven't gotten out to me yet and the power sucks in all the areas they haven't gotten to yet.
