I bet. Thats why people go with the 88s. they like that ice pick sound. But all el34s are alittle too compressed for me. I put in a set of 6l6's in with mine and its nice :D

My favorite was 4 x EL34 + 2 x 6L6. Glad you got it sounding great. Herbert is a destroyer-class amp!!!

Peter what is the difference in sound between the KT77s and the EL34s? The 77s are more reliable but why else did you decide to change over to them?

Boooooooo.....

KT88's in Herbert is simply awesome.

The mix of Ruby and TAD KT88s had a horrid icepick to the ears sound that i could never dial out 100%. Had to get rid of it somehow.

The KT77 is a "high grade" EL34. The version from
JJ has more midrange than the Chinese EL34.

Peter.. Have you used/tried the High Gain/Grade 12AX7 JJ's also... compared to the Ruby's.. any opinion?

It is my understanding the ruby takes tubes and does testing on them to make sure they are of "high quality" I'm pretty sure I have seen alot of ruby 12ax7s with the JJ name on them. JJ made, Ruby tested and approved.

Yes I know them. Good for clean or medium crunch.
Very good concerning micro phonics but tend to
get noisy after a while.

Since most power tubes loose current
after a while I would go to 35mA
