Ditching the rack...

After a year of playing with a head/ rack setup, I have decided to just loose the rack. Normally, I am a huge proponent of the G Major, but I am really not liking what it does to the tone of my 5153. I also only use two effects... Delay and Vibe. I just purchased a Fulltone mini Deja Vibe off ebay, and will pickup a delay pedal soon. There's just no point in robbing the tone for two effects.

I did that a while ago. Used to have a whole MIDI switching rig with my Sig:X and another amp for stereo, but decided to make a simple pedalboard and go in mono. Worked out great! Haven't really messed around with stereo since, but made an AB/Y box (or modiifed one) to use with two amps again. Simpler is better a lot of times...

There is still not a rig I love more than my Splawn, TU-2 and guitar. I have a full pedalboard but honestly I really don't use it much. May make a small "working man" board with my Delay, Chorus and Verb.

I have my rack but it only houses a power conditioner and my wireless.

GOOD MOVE!

I think you'll be more happy. Although I haven't played the Gmajor 2, I owned the Gmajor 1 way back and it sucks analog tone. If you want your amp to sound more processed and digital, cool...then the TC rack stuff is for you. Hence why I liked my Rocktron Xpression way more when I had it...Cuz there was a digital and analog routing in it...always had it on analog.

That being said, I don't own rack stuff anymore...Run an El Capistan through that thing! You'll be happy.

Struggling with this right now, I run a Gmajor II with my VH-4, and to be honest my tone is completely monstrous, but I've used it for so long it's because I'm used to the way the Gmajor colors the tone a bit, but there is still always that itch in the back of my head, especially when I plug straight into the VH-4 and here it raw...

...is it really worth not giving the audience that raw glory for like....maybe 3 effects?

...I fucking HATE tap dancing though... unless there is another way to go from a dry rhythm tone to a clean tone with chorus delay and verb with one stomp without having to run a million cables to my pedalboard then I'm stuck where I'm at... I don't use many effects, but the few that I do use I definitely need...

I've really boiled it down over the past years to mainly delay. I use the vibe in a couple of songs, but the vibe in the TC really isn't that great. I'm thinking I'll pick up a delay pedal and just sit it on top of the amp. I'll kick the loop when I need it. As long as it will do 480ms, I'm golden. Lol. I've stopped using pitch shift and chorus over the past couple of years. The EVH sound doesn't really work for the type of music I play. So I don't really see that much in the line of tap dancing.

I used a rack with a gmajor and and a pedal tray for years. I left my rack at home one night and just took a tuner pedal and a delay and was blown away at the difference in tone. I sold all the rack crap and built a simple pedalboard and have never looked back

I have 3-4 pedals in front of my amp going through a RJM switcher so it is like direct. Gave up the rack effect units because of tone suck.

Yup, went from rack/midi to heads with boxes in front and in loop. Yeah got to tap dance occasionally but still like it...not locked into combos and having to memorize numbers for tonz

Ditched my Triaxis/2:90/G Major rig years ago when I got my VH4S. Eventually ended up using it with a Rocktron Multivalve up until about a year ago. That's when I got the PRS Blistertone which is a high gain single chnnel amp.I'm runnning it with pedals in the fron and the loop.
