Giving up on purchasing new gear for a while and going to concentrate on some other stuff. Thinking a nice little project is in order and thought why not a preamp build rather than an amp build.

Any suggestions for where to get a reasonable kit and maybe which ones to stay away from?

. . . you need a different transformer though, Randy. Thats 230V.

i was going to recommend this kit. i haven't used it myself, but a member on another board has and says it's very complete. i know it doesn't come with knobs, but you can get those domestically.

also, i emailed klaus about shipping to the US, and he said it was no problem. he also said he was getting some 120V transformers in soon.

that looks very nice, but i have no electronic skills. 250 € for 3 channel preamp/w midi sounds pretty cheap wonder how it sounds.

poorly translated

here is another option that isn't as complete, but it is still cool!!!

Also Kevin at london power is a great guy to deal with. I have some of his books, and his old preamp kit, and everything is top notch. The instructions are great, and as long as they are still the same as he used before there is a bit of technical info, and some alternate parts for some of the circuits. He also has a small power amp kit, and he is the inventor of power scaling.

I wonder if you can get a Avenger type sound out of those preamps....

With a good poweramp, sure, Phil.
Damn it  Now I have to investigate.... :D
What kind of power amp would it need?

philb .... For what it's worth I was thinking about buying a power amp last year. ;) I found I like the power amp of my Mark IV better than any of them. 8 voices/EQ. I loop out the preamp with a GCX. This way I can add any preamp. I A/B the power amp with several other heads power section and all the popular rack power amps. Randell/VHT/Mesa/etc. To say the least I was surprised by this.
W/D/W is cool but just unnecessary for me live. I go W/D using a THD Flexi for the dry. This way I have a preamp distortion amp and a poweramp distortion amp. Sometimes I switch out the IV with my Sig-X. For a bit I was using both in a W/D/W set up looping the preamps with the GCX.
W/D/W = Mesa/Flexi/VHT. Flexi preamp not looped. Parallel after front effects. The way I see it you already have a Mesa and VHT power amp.

I was hoping somebody already done something like that. Yup, I was thinking of using the Mark IV power amp or the Sig:X power amp :) When I got the VHT Deliverance a few years ago, the other amp that I found really cool was the Avenger.

The VHT Deliverance let me to the Sig:X but I still find the Avenger very cool.
The Avenger Hot Rod is too expensive for my budget but the preamp kit is way more affordable.
I only need a switching system and I have my eye on the RJM RG-16 and a midi controller.

Thats funny I was think about the Avenger myself.
This may be a good way to take less wear or my back and wallet.
The way I have my rack I can switch out 1,2 or 3 amps depending on my needs for the gig. The amps I have been using as of late is Mark IV/Trident/Tremoverb/Sig X/Bivalve/Flexi ~ in all combinations.
W/D,W/W,W/D/W.
I like the power amps I have and plan on adding some preamps.

I read some where that the Orange channel of my Mesa Tremoverb is very similar to the Soldano preamp. Is this True ?
