Do rigs really matter?

Proof that tone is in the fingers! No need for 100 watts if I'm only playing in my living room.

Yes.

If it didn't he would use that little amp on stage. :D

doug is gonna sound killer through anything but I'm sure a proper rig makes it much easier!

Personally, I think when it comes to recording, a smaller kit is way easier to get primo tone from. A little 1x12 or even a 1x10 close mic'd, hammered with anything from 5W to 25W, and cranked. It takes a lot of volume to get the big boys breathing heavy - the little ones start to really rock'n'roll with so little, and no one's the wiser when you hear it properly recorded

Yes, they do, just not as much as many seem to think.

Indeed. I agree-matters but not to the level a lot take it. Not judging though, definitely fun to put together.

Exactly. Some just love trying new gear and the whole obsessive quest of it all. Nothing wrong with that but if your tone is getting in the way of your playing I believe something is out of whack.

Ya, he need's no amp at all! He could just use an acoustic, because tone's in the fingers.

Not for me much ... I am fine with any decent mediocre amp & guitar...

If you can drive, you can drive. A Ferrari won't change a damn thing if you can't.

Tone is in the player/fingers/hands etc... If you want to chase your tail with different gear, by all means but you're just making else someone rich... :)

My point was that Doug will shred with WHATEVER gear he has in front of him. That is indisputable. It's pointless to have 100 watts if you're only in your dressing room. Clearly, he will need a MUCH larger rig if he's playing a large venue. So to clarify my original answer to the OP, the bigger the venue, the more rigs matter.

Doug practiced, alot, before he went searching for tone.

Just saying.

Why? I'm sure the large venue has a LARGE PA with a nice monitor system.

Yeah, but isn't there something lost in micing anything, no matter how nice it is? More wattage typically lends more clean headroom as well. I wasn't saying that the bigger and more expensive stuff isn't better, and I'm not one of those douchebags who goes around saying that a Squier Classic Vibe is the best guitar you can buy. If I did think that, I certainly wouldn't voice it either because a lot of people would hate me here.

Well, if they didn't then this forum would just be called TALK.

my fingers always sound like my fingers... except through different amps my fingers sound a little different. umm something like that Yeah....!

I understand that ppl's technique comes through on any amp, but if you can make an open E "power chord" sound the same on a Marshall and a Boogie, then hats off
