Do you stick with one brand pickup?

Do you guys mostly stick to just one brand pickup or do you mix it up with different guitars?

I mix it up. I keep a variety of pickups on hand. Every guitar has different requirements. It usually takes a few pickup swaps before I find the right one for each guitar.

For me though it’s mostly Suhr Aldrich, TN Roxy, JB’s, that type of stuff.

I had one LP that had roundness to the low strings no matter what. I threw in a Motor City 2nd degree black belt and it’s perfect now. It just needed a lower output pickup.

In summary, sticking with one brand doesn’t benefit multiple guitar’s different characteristics, in my experience.

Have a guitar with a Super Distortion in the bridge and ‘59 in the neck

This.

I have a couple Shaw Dirty Fingers, one is in a Greco LP and is perfect for it. Have a Tone Nerd Whiskey in a 09 Charvel USA, and surprisingly an old Ibanez V5 that came in my beat to shit 84 Destroyer, is in my 86 Jackson Strat. For some reason it's absolutely killer in that guitar, even better than the TN and vintage Schaller, Shaw pickups. I also have a few Roxy, SS and Psyches here somewhere.

I have a Whiskey in my Charvel San Dimas. That pickup is so good in that guitar.

Nah, I'll try just about anything I think sounds good or should sound good via specs and urban lore. But I do seem to end up with Seymour Duncan more often than not.:dunno:

Duncans or Dimarzios for me. They’ve worked for me since the 80’s. No reason to fix what ain’t broke.

Different pickups in guitars. More fun that way IMO. Let each guitar have its own unique voice.

I will say I don't like mixing brands in a single guitar, though. Winding direction, magnet orientation, etc. can be a pain to deal with when you start doing that. That said, 4 conductor wiring and magnet reversals can fix most of those issues if you do run into them.

Nah. I’m all over the place:

R9 - Brandonwound 59’ clones
Jr - David Allen Cool Cat P90
Victory - stock 80’s Tributes
61’ SG - stock
CS Strat - Rocketfire Total 60’s
Fender shredder - Mighty Mite Motherbucker

I use two brands, EMG and Seymour Duncan. I'm always tempted to try others, but I'm already happy with the basics...

Dimarzio, Fralin, Wagner, Duncan, Gibson, TV Jones, Wolfetone, Danelectro, Tonerider

I played Duncans pretty much exclusively for the longest time, and always kept one guitar around with EMG’s.

More recently I’ve taken a liking to BKP, Fralin & Suhr pickups in a few of my guitars.

I use whatever. Some guitars are stock, some Duncans, Dimarzios, Fralins etc.

Wagner ironman and tone nerd wicked 8. They are both so good.

The ironman had more clarity. But the wicked 8 has something special

I play Duncans mostly, but I have EMG Retroactives in my Strat. I would also like to put a Dimarzio in something again just to have a different vibe around.

I stick with what works for me and what sounds good with my guitars/rig. Years ago, I used to stick to Duncan only (Distortion and Blackouts), but nowadays, I use Wolfetone pickups (Timbrewolf and Marshallhead).

Cheers

I also like to mix it up, Seymour Duncan, Suhr, and TV Jones are some of my favorites though

I used to, but not anymore. I don't tone chase like I used to.
