Do you think I'm cheating?

To preface my question, let me say that I always have and still want to get a Mesa Recto...preferably a Single recto (hear they are the best sounding).

With that said, I was screwing around with Guitar Rig 2 on my Mac this past weekend and got a pretty wicked Mesa-type sound that I really dig. So I thought, "Self, what would this sound like through an actual cab?" So I tried it through my Crate's power amp and cab. It sounded freaking KILLER!

If I took this rig out and used it live, would that make me any less of a guitarist? Would that be cheating? :scared: It sounds better than my Crate, and in the mean time, I can have a great sounding rig.

What do my guitar brethren think?

Just do what sounds good to you. Don't let the tube snobs sway your opinion.

I've been using solid state Randall's for a few years now and they sound better than ALOT of tube amps in my opinion (for high gain metal tones).

Keep your options open though, if you got money to spare then by all means give a recto a try. You can always put it up on ebay if it doesn't do it for ya.

Hell if it works for you go for it.....

FWIW, I think the guitarist from Fear Factory (Christian, not Dino) was using a set-up like that for a while...

If aint broke, dont fix it

Kinda glad to hear that I won't be shunned!  There so many short term fixes this accomplishes...most notably the tone issue and as long as I'm plugging the computer into the same circuit as my amp, it should quiet my rig down considerably.

When I had tested the set-up, I had my computer and amp plugged into separate outlets, not sure about separate circuits. Sounded like there was a pretty good ground loop happening - 60 cycle hum. Sounded ugly, not something any noise gate could take care of since it was happening in the power amp section. I hope that was my problem. I didn't want to try lifting the ground for fear of shock. My wiring in my house is very questionable in places.
