I'm thinking about picking one of these up, but I am used to/have favored mahogany - just curious if anybody thinks these are really bright guitars? I like their neck profiles from what I remember playing a few in the past. Anybody have one and change the bridge pup out for a beefier sound? FWIW, I'm looking at a SL1-T which would be string thru body not floyd.

I had an SL2HT and did not care for it.

You know that they have the SL2H-MAH, right?

Really comfortable necks, would be x10 better though if it was unfinished

Owned this one and was in heaven for finally owning a real USA Jackson after all those years...........................

The neck was not for me though, I am more a Charvel / Ibanez player  Great guitar though, lots of tones in that configuration.

The necks are really wide and i felt like a real dork if i played anything other than metal on a soloist :D

And i hate where they put the toggle switch.

I like the pre-Fender ones better. For some reason the one's i've owned/played sound better to me although I think both the pre-fender and post-fender guitars play extremely well.

I've still got my pre-Fender USA soloist and it rocks and plays great. It's a rock...I haven't had to adjust a thing on it in several years

I'm here too. It's not that you can't play other styles. It's just...weird. It's one of the reasons I'm contemplating moving away from the two Soloists I have. I'll probably sell the black one but the Black Cherry SL2H, ha! I'm being cremated with that one.

Also check out the SL2H-MAH. I had one and it's a great guitar that's not really bright like the other Soloists can be.

I own some highly regarded guitar brands and my Jackson SL2H is up there with the boutiques in tone (and every other area). Control placement is a non issue for me and an EJ Strat's neck is a BAZILLION times more sticky than a standard Jackson painted neck. Go for it!

I've owned a few dozen USA Jacksons, and I just can't stand the way the soloists sound 'spongy'. I know it probably doesn't make much sense, but the tone just sucks IMHO. I think it has to do with the way the back of the neck joint is so sculpted out and the way it's one piece of wood basically with wings attached. I've never heard a Jackson soloist that amplified sounded 1/2 as good as a set neck hamer, gibson or PRS.

Favorite one I had that was almost normal sounding to me was a really old student archtop soloist - Sn was around 200, it freakin' killed but I had to pay bills and it had to go. I'd buy it back in a heartbeat if I could, was a killer guitar.

USA Jacksons are built well, my favorite years are early 90s, it seems like whoever was doing the fretwork then was a GOD. I just prefer bolt ons and currently have a DK2 quilt top bolt on Jackson that kills, along with a San Dimas strat (pointy head though) and a SD one HB pointy. Great guitars, I just can't get over the tone.

Here's a pic of two I used to have - the student archtop and a green ghost flame I called Kermit for obvious reasons. ;)

very nice guitars! butthe necks are not for me. too wide and flat. same as ibanez for me. And I too feel like a dork playing anything but metal or hair metal on an ibanez or a Jackson

I agree with Pete, the soloists are missing that bolt on snap and pop. They are too smooth sounding if that makes sense

Thats hot and sexy !!!

I love Jackson USA Soloist. I've had a dozen or so SL2H's....all felt and sounded great for Slayer, 80's/thrash/death/speed/metal.
I used emg 81's with a emg spc (dimed) and they all sounded fantastic!!!

I currenty have a snow white USA Jackson DK1 with DiMarzio DP152 Super 3's (white) that I'm digging.

I've had custom shop ESP M2's and I prefer the feel and sound of the USA Jackson SL2H/DK1's.
Besides the sound and feel...I'm 80's old school and the sharkfin inlays on ebony board is very thrashing metal looking

ps. after playing jacksons ...ESP's and Ibanez necks are super easy to man handle....and i dont even have big hands.
