I'm assuming it's Rick's take on a JCM800? Any one played or owned/own one? I'd love to hear an 800 with Wizard's magic added but not in the position to drop $6k on an amp that I've never heard :p

I do. It has a lot of similarities to a Jcm800. But has some time shaping tools on it like contour, boost and a shift on the treble that switches between UK and US voicing. Pushed in seems to pull the tone back forward in UK voicing adds a sort of brightness and eq forward kind of tone.

Here’s a quick clip I made comparing it to the Wizard Modern Classic the Modern Classic is 1st, W800 2nd. I will warn you I don’t use a lot of gain with my amps.

These are great clips! Don't you have your W100 listed on Kijiji right now, Clay? If I can move 1 more piece of gear, I will hit you up, but I doubt it will still be around; Wizards Don't seem to last very long when posted for sale in Canada!

Yeah I do. As much as I didn’t want to sell it I have some renovations coming up for my house. So I’m keeping my Modern Classic.

All micd with sm7b at 107-115 dbs

This is with K 100s

This is with k100s mixed with v 30s

This is H 30 annies

This is H 30 with a darker set eq

This is on the low input (still boosted)

If you are in Austin area, you can come by and play it anytime.

Ah man these sound great!! Thanks for posting clips. Time to start saving!!

what I love about Wizards is they are tight regardless if you boost them or not, that boosted vs unboosted clip still retained the tightness even unboosted.

You like Austin?, the music scene?
Has it “Cool Guyed Out”?
Happens everywhere at somepoint.
If I’m ever in town, I’ll ring you up &
we’ll go piss on the Alamo mate!
A double barrel tribute to OZZY.

Great way to demonstrate the amp btw,
I appreciate the dry straight right up the butt recording.
I was surprised there wasn’t more gain but
it sounds mean as fuck- dry but juicy

A local player has one and contacted us asking about a trade for our MCii. He says it great but doesn’t quite have the gain he was hoping for and prefers not to boost.

Doubt we’ll do the deal but might do a month-long swap for kicks. If so, I’ll try and grab some clips with the same miking as our existing Wizard videos. Might make for a good comparison for anyone interested.

I’m actually quite interested how it compares to a 2203, including under the hood given the 800 moniker.

Seriously, I can get a keen sense of how it sounds & feels due to your honest recording dude.
For real, thank you.
Sounds really good.
I bet it screams for leads.
I’ve owned herds of Wizards & Wizard cabinets.
You pay Rick himself to build you an amplifier
with his design,mind & hands.
He’s a fucking bad ass builder.

Austin was cooler 20 years ago. It is pretty much dead now as far as im concerned. However, you are welcome to come play the amp, and we can piss wherever you like

As for the W800.... I've owned 2 - the one Smashedguitarist now has and a KT150 version. I also played a 6L version with a depth instead of contour. All of them are killer amps. They do have a little less gain than an MC2 and are voiced more toward the Marshall end of the spectrum compared to the MC2. They take boosts well if you need more gain.

I do have another one on order. I had the urge to track down a good 2204 but couldn't find one in the condition or price I wanted, so I just figured what the hell and ordered a 50w w800 (and a 50w MC2 to boot!). Both still being built

A big reason there's so many used Wizards available is due in large part to you...for that I thank you...LOL!

I will also say that I like a tight clear sound to my amps, so with this one, I keep the preamp gain very low, and I stop the master before the tube saturation begins. If you want it juicier, you just have to hit the master a little harder. If you want more gain, just pump the preamp gain.

It's turning into mini San Francisco unfortunately. Pretty soon there will be shit in the streets
that's like Portland is now, literal human shit on the sidewalks. Downtown and the outskirts look like a 3rd world slum.
