Does anyone port cabs/enclosures any more?

I just got a semi open back 2x12 Seismic cab last week and it is fucking HUGE. Almost the size of a 4x12. I am going to close the back and plan on closing the back. I called seismic and they said it would be fine.

But, could I make a tuned ported cab out of it?

Does anybody do that? What speakers would you recommend? What frequency? Or just close it up and have a normal cab?

My main live cabs are a pair of Mojotone-built Lopoline-designed oversized 2x12s with a big port along the bottom. I usually play them with the port parallel to the floor but they're the top cabs in this pic. They definitely sound huge without having to haul around a pair of 4x12s. I think a lot of specialty companies are making ported cabs but the regular production stuff most companies selling are just classic sealed infinite baffle designs.

The Mesa Boogie Thiele cabs are ported and still being sold.

Tuning it should be possible, just follow the Thiele dimensions and then apply them to your cab.

I love the Thiele cabs, but they are only 1x12s

The Mesa Thiele is just an EV TL806 cabinet design. There are expanded 2x12 and 4x12 versions of this cabinet.

I use this and buy the ports from parts express. Works a treat, just get it right and choose the right frequency .
