Does Wax-Potting a Pickup Affect the Tone?

My Tele pickups are both microphonic (the bridge more than the neck), but I absolutely LOVE their tone. They are CS '51 Nocasters and while the standard hum doesn't bother me at all, they do start to squeal when the volume gets up there and/or gain is added.

So, if I have them wax-potted, should I expect much change in tone? I'm hoping the effect is minimal, if any, but I admit I don't have much knowledge on the subject as I've never had to do it.

I can't explain the physics behind my response, but having hand wound some of my own pickups, both unpotted, and potted, I can say it does change in some way. I've played some of my pickups for several months... Taken them out of the guitar and potted them and it does change them. It just sounds more open to me without the potting. The difference is slight I think, but they will sound different.

Thanks for the response. I kinda guessed they might change a bit. Maybe I'll leave them as is for the time being. They just bite/twang/snap so nicely that I don't want to give in to any changes
