Please, don't.

Why not.... ?
The top amp is a 1980 jmp 2203 , the middle one is a 1980 jmp superbass
and the bottom one is a 1975 jmp superbass
I call em the dan gower holy trinity........

If you own the amp it's yours to do with as you wish, doesn't affect me at all.

Personally though I would rather mod a clone or reissue platform than an original.

never understood a 2203 gettn modded....plenty other amps that do the MOD sound thing.....2203 and a OD1 & your set

its not like they are ever going to be collectable , marshall literally made a kazillion of them if every member on this forum had one modded it wouldnt even use 1 % of all the 2203 that were made
and.... there is no way a stock marshall 2203 from any era and an od 1 can get close to the gain or tone of something like a fortin cali or a cameron jose or aldrich or friedman or golub etc ....
I have made direct comparisons and the 2203/2204 is a fine amp with great tones that can nail classic marshall tones and if thats what you want then keep it that way , but if you want modded tones they are a great platform for modding so put some bullet holes in it and four extra preamp tubes and a million switches labelled scorch incineate and nukem......

getting cork sniffy over a 2203 pleeeease....

You're right. The early 70's Marshalls that are point to point are easier to mod

The mid to late sixties plexis are EVEN EASIER :D

hello, little "peek-a-boo bear that likey cute jappy girl wit' small booby" :)

If you're not happy with it or just want a little more out of it, then why not? It's not like it some sacred, perfect circuitry. It's just a tool like the rest of em.

+1

all joking aside i do agree the circuits were made to do a job. if they aren't cutting it then modify them until they do what is expected.

FWIW, i would rather cut up a kit amplifier than an actual PCB marshall. marshall prices are coming down, but with a kit you can drill as many holes as you want and have nothing to worry about as far as resale value and/or sourcing new faceplates if the modifications want to be reversed for whatever reason.

Dave Friedman is doing one of my JMP 2203's now, i wrestled with it for a whole year til i talked to Santiago Alverez lead engineer from Marshall who basically said "it's just an amp so WTF."

If someone wants a little more than what stock offers, what's that to you?

its not about collectability, and u just answered ur own question, buy a fortin if u need a fortin sound...... no cork sniffin here mate not interested in that

Stupid thread and stirring shit.

Guess one could ask Eddie, Slash, Doug, Jerry or a host of others why they chose to play live and record with their modded Marshalls. JMP/JCM are all basically the same board/circuit. It's well known that Marshall assembled with whatever components they could buy at the time. Jim sent Betty out everyday for his fish and chips and a handful of Daly caps.

using a 2203 with a pedal is never quite as satisfying as getting all the crunch directly from the amp , and if your amp cant get enough of what u want while stock, then why not mod it? The best sounding marshall I ever owned was a modded 77 2203 and I have owned at least 20 old marshalls. However , I do look for an unmodded amp when looking to buy used and hate when they have 53 extra holes drilled into the front yet still sound like a noisy piece of shit, usually a modded example brings alot less money on the used market especially the ones with irreversable changes, unless its by one of the top modders and sold in a market that would appreciate it.
