A week ago I saw an old 1960a for $300. I've been wanting another and that's a decent price, so I met up with the guy, excited to get some older T75s. Except the cab had different speakers. I was pretty turned off by this, but quickly did some research on my phone and at a glance, it seemed like I could sell the speakers for double the price of the T75s. Thinking I'd make some money, I bought it.

As it turns out, I can't sell the speakers. What I didn't take into account is that thirty year old G12-80s with 444 cones sound fucking awesome. So now I have to keep them.

Isn't that the worst??

Ha! I just sold 4 of those locally a few weeks ago. Great speakers for sure - it was tough to let them go. But I wasn't using them and hadn't for a number of years. I'm trying to turn over a new leaf, and not hold on to items I don't use.

And man I want to get screwed on CL so badly.... I'm looking for an old Peavey butcher cab that (ahem) has 4 of those awesome old G12-85 speakers in them.

Totally easy to remedy IMHO.....

Sort of! It's not really a Recto clone anymore though... More of a '67 spec plexi. As much as I liked the Recto sound, I have to say, this new setup is the best thing I have ever plugged into.

I had the opposite happen to me. I got a VHT Fatbottom cab hoping to try out the P50Es. When I got it, half the cab didn't work. When I got inside to check it out, they were Sheffields. I sold them to a buddy to load in a Peavey cab (made sense to me) and put Mesa V30s in it.

All is well that ends well.

On another note, I did business with the guy that promised me the P50s again. I got a discount on a rack case he was selling because of it. Not everyone is a douche on CL.

I think I have all my cabs happy now. If I get more speakers, I'll have to get another cab. I can't justify 4 cabs when I play bass, and don't play guitar that often. Besides, my next chunk of change is going to a Spector Forte.

I did a trade and ended up with a pedal that didn't work.

I saw another ad same guy a few months later. I was going to smash him with the broken pedal and take the other but I think he remembered and canceled the deal at last minute.

These days having kids now and being an adult I just take the bad deal and do nothing.

But I think 5 years ago I may have been a little more slick on the 2nd deal, used a different email and perhaps said I lived in the next town.

I still have the losers info just in case in the future I lose my cares. Probably will never do anything about it.

Sweet, got clips of it up on tonefinder?
I've recorded with it a bunch of times. It's phenomenal - massive, thick tone - but I haven't recorded a clip yet. Maybe next weekend? I'll definitely post back if so!

Things that I can't sell on the forums have been moving pretty fast on CL. I haven't relisted some stuff there - testing the waters. But easy, quick, no shipping and cash. Just meet in a very public place ;)

I bought a 1960A last year off of CL that was supposed to have greenies in it for $200. Kid needed money for school.

Turns out it had 75's and not greenies. Every single screw in that thing was loose also. Tightened it up and all was well. I didn't complain about the 75's. I figured for $200, there was no reason.

Damn, that's a pretty good deal.

I see them routinely for 400-450 canadian so that is a good price... been flirting with picking up one of these instead of getting an unloaded new 2 x12 cab which is prob 125$ cheaper so why bother. How different is a Marshall from an oversized avatar or mesa cab? More midrange less bass?

G12T-80s are great speakers in a combo or in a 1960. Glad it worked out.

Damn, that's a pretty good deal.

He was asking $250 originally and I was about 400 miles from home. I told him I had $200 in my pocket and was going to be driving past his house in 2 hours. Which was true. I wasn't really trying to low ball him but he mentioned something in his ad about being short on tuition.

Not to mention, this was just about in the middle of nowhere Ohio. You stole the cab you picked up out in your neck of the woods.
