Whats out there? With the stupid patent crap, whats out there for double cream pups besides Dimarzio Super Distortions?

Can't you get pretty much anything in double cream???

Any DiMarzio, small winders and older Duncans. That is about it I think. As much as I love DiMarzio they really fucked up that aspect for everyone else.

Messenger, DiMarzio has a patent on the double creams.

Weird. Didn't know that. I bought a double cream Bill Lawrence USA a few years back. And I believe Wilde Bill also sells them. Can get a GFS in double "ivory".

BKP will do double cream. It's ok for them in the UK to do it.

Wolfetone did a set for me, I promised not to tell Larry ;)

You can find older Gibson pickups in double cream from the late 70's/early 80s like the Dirty Fingers.

I believe that the Duncan custom shop, at least until fairly recently, would sell you double cream if shipped with covers.

Duncan won't do it at all anymore. Dimarzio has a trademark, not a patent (big difference...patents expire, trademarks don't), but some smaller and/or foreign companies ignore it. It's likely only a matter of time before they bring the hammer down on Bare Knuckle...they're getting big enough to be noticed.

I always thought that it was odd that a company could do this. Why doesn't one of them trademark black?

Double white or ivory is different from double crème

This thread makes me never want to use or suggest Dimarzio pickups to anyone ever again.

It does suck... I wanted to order a GMW strat in the worst way, and I wanted either a double crème Custom or Distortion, and then I found out I couldn't get either from Duncan... so I never ordered the guitar because I didn't want DiMarzio to be my only option.

The "ivory" looks like cream. Or are u saying as long as they call it something other then cream it's all good? If Seymour Duncan called it double French Vanilla they could do it?

No, the ivory is like off white, white is bright white. Nothing is double crème from another manufacturer (unless it's made out of the country or in really small quantities here I guess)

I've heard that there are a few manufacturers out there that will sell you a covered pickup that has double cream bobbins underneath. Then you just have to remove the cover...
