Doug Aldrich gear rundown

He's always had a ripping tone. Until now... His best was with Dio live.. Supposedly it was a JCM800..Modded, I'm sure...

My understanding is that he had a Cameron modded Marshall and a Martin Golub/John Suhr modded Marshall in the rack. Maybe even a Roccaforte modded Marshall too.

I think he mostly used the Suhr modded amp, but I don’t know that for sure.

His tone on the Killing The Dragon album and tour is one of my all time favorites!

Yeah, Killing The Dragon was killer. He's got a nasty tone with those Marshalls. Can't tell me the Blackstars kicked them off the mantle, he probably keeps them off the road and safely cherished. Those Blackstars are just beaters for him. I'm sure if he was doing bigger, high profile gigs, the Marshalls come out.

Those Dio tones are some of the best ever.

Never was a fan of this guy. He was great with Dio, however.
It wasn't till I started streaming music, that I found his two solo albums, Electrovision and Highcentered. These albums are awesome.

This amp should sound better. Even clips with him playing is pretty bleak. No clarity.
I had the 100 watt Blackstar this amp was based off of, and was always able to dial in some good sounds.

Agree with everyone here.. Doug's tone used to punch through and slice. These Blackstar amps have no cut or detail. It sounds like a fizzy bloated mess. Then using that Universal Audio pedal in front? I don't know what's happened to his ears. The rocket Fuel or any of the other boosts he used in front of his modded Marshalls was the way to go. In this 2025 run down, I thought the Fuzz through the clean channel sounded the best. This thread reminds me to pop open my PQ3 and look for bloated caps because that bastard hums the minute i plug it into the wall. The PQ3 kicks ass in front of a Marshall though no question.
