anybody know what pickups were in those strats?

Seymour Duncan Holdsworth in the bridge, which is a custom shop pickup. Fender noiseless singles in the other positions. The gold Strat had a Little 59 in the neck.

Of the two vids I prefer the strat but I like both. Agree I would prefer a little less low end on some of his LP tones, particularly if he's gonna be rolling the tone back etc. Great player!

are those strats ash or alder? and did he use 11 gauge strings with those strats?
they definetly sound really beefy/thick for strats.

I had to go with the strat vote.
OP asked us to choose between strat or Les-paul...
You watch that roseland solo and the vote is automatic....

I cannot decide.

I have a Suhr Doug Aldrich humbucker pickup set in my Les Paul copy- and those things ROAR through a cranked amp. So much punch and chunk with lots of crunch, and heaps of articulation & definition. Nothing beats it.

Yet I am absolutely torn, because I am beside myself over the clean tones I get with a Fender Stratocaster & two single coil pickups. Sure enough I can coil-split the Aldrich humbuckers and it does sound nice, but it just doesn't have that Glassy Fender Twang. I really like using the neck-plus-middle pickup position, and the neck pickup but picking between the bridge pickup and the middle. It sounds AMAZING.

I'm wondering if I should get a Fender Fat Strat and replace the bridge stock pickup with an Aldrich?
