As a result of moving my studio from the basement to another part of the house, I've had to re-think my guitar setup a little. I was running my Mk V head through a 2 12" Avatar cabinet. Open air recording with this setup presented hurdles obviously, unless I dropped the wattage, which to me is
.
I experimented with trying to jam that into the closet of this room for an isolation effect, but fitment is a bit of an issue... so I grabbed a Mesa extension cab today. Long story short, the closet gives enough sound isolation that I can effectively track through my monitors with no issues, and I seem to be getting better guitar tones than I have in previous recordings.. though I can't accurately correlate that to the cabinet itself. Next step is to get a bit of acoustic foam in the closet as well to see if that furthers the effect, and then run a second mic to the setup.
Anyhow... if you're looking for a volume solution at home, I'd highly recommend checking these (and cabinets like them) out. They don't blow your hair back, but you really don't want them to anyhow
