Personally I find it irrational that there is gear that is unattainable. Sure a 1959 Les Paul or a Dumble amp is worth xxx, xxx.xx on the open market, but only because it's more art than "gear". Anyone can buy a guitar or amp of their choice if you save your coffee/McDonalds/cigg money for a few months or years if you want serious gear. Oh, yeah, don't have 12 sub $1,000.00 dollar guitars and amps and then have to "thin the herd", cull the idiocy instead.
A great amp is what you make of it. Me, I know what I want and it might be here tomorrow. It's hard to sleep knowing I have a Boogie Quad preamp, my favorite two amps ever, and a Boogie Strategy 400 power amp, the best power amp ever combining two coliseum power sections! Both went in for total whatever they needed to be like new. I cannot think of a more desirable amp. I've worked my way through the Boogie Mark amps owning all but 1 & 5. I know Boogie Mark amps
I bought a 1955 Stratocaster when I was 18 and held on to it for 34 years until I realized I hated it. I sold it 5 yeas ago and bought my dream amp, a Boogie Mark IIC+ and my dream guitar, a Steinberger GR4 and went on a $10,000.00 vacation and still had $5,000.00 to spend on gear. I never missed that guitar for one second. I had three pre-CBS Strats at one time and two full Marshall plexi's along with plenty of wine, weed and women. And a cool black German Shepard named Beldar. When I was 25 I had Jackson make me a RR and that was the longest 6 months of my life. I got so tired of waiting for it I went out and bought another off the rack at the store. Who doesn't need two Jackson guitars in 1988? I still have the RR.
I'm glad I lust and find a way to get there. Except Les Pauls. Every time I buy one I ask myself WTF? I have been lusting for that R9 in the emporium and came this close to pulling the trigger! Why why why? I hate playing Les Pauls but they're so Purdy. I know I'll buy another one when my guard is down. They're sooo Purdy!
