I know there are drum machines out there that will allow you to make your own beats.
Is there a good unit that already has loaded beats?
Something that sounds really good would be nice..
Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks,
Jon

Check out the Zoom RhythmTrak series and their R series drum machines. I used one for years and it was pretty nice and simple to use

Garage band for the iPad is much better than I thought. There are also many free loops on the internet if you are just wanting something to jam with

I need to have the ability to use the beats in Garage band on my Mac air.

Best drum machine on the market is the Elektron Machinedrum, but it's more expensive than your budget

I'd go for a Korg EMX-1, it used to be over 700$ when it came out, but now it's dirt cheap at 500$ and really easy to find on the used market. It has tons of presets, drum sounds (with editable parameters) and a full synth engine, so you can easily program a bass track or some cool ambient pads.
It's also really easy to program with its 16 step sequencer or real-time sequencer, whichever you prefer.

The iPad equivalent is the iElectribe

Doesn't really have the ability to make heavy drum beats for a metal/slipknot type of drummer does it?
Seems like its ment for club x DJ lol

That's the targetted market, indeed. But drum machine manufacturers pretty much all target some type of electronic music market. As long as you have the sequencing ability and sounds in there, you're good to program almost any type of drum beat. Rock and metal people usually use plugins like EZ and Superior Drummer

The new LogicX has killer drums.

+1. The drums sound great and they are easy to use. Select a "drummer" and dial in a point on a single x-y graph for how easy/complex and how soft/hard you want him to play. It's not hardware, but it's the best I've seen by far for usable drums for the non-drummer.

I've been making drum tracks with ez drummer. I like it but doesn't sound great. Looking into addictive drums because they sound fairly legit.

Just curious why you'd want hardware over something like addictive drums? Is it the computer space/memory?

I guess it doesn't have to be hardware, I just hate spending hours learning new software lol
