Ok so im completely new to using drum programming software. I want something that's gonna sound great and also not be difficult to use. Im using a MAC and right now im using Garageband, but i may opt for Logic at some point soon.

What can you guys recommend to me? :)

Dan

I'm using Fruity Loops Studio as it the most intuitive interface I've encountered. The stock drum samples suck but I procured a ridiculous library of .wav's. Just drag and drop. The sequencer is easy to use and stock FX are pretty tasty. I didn't pay for mine either though. Better stuff out there but if you're looking for a proprietary drum program it will definitely take care of you.

Superior 2

if you don't want to dick around at all EZDrummer is more simple, but sounds thinner.

Addictive Drums are good for a really dry on face drum sound, but the midi library that comes with it is poor. If you like me like odd meters you are out of luck with any of them, otherwise S2 & EZD midis give some good starting point IMO.

If you can wait I believe there are some new softs to be released that might be better, including one form Slate.

There is a cool sounding drum sample library that ships with a HDD, but not easy to use. Don't remember the name.

I'll 2nd ezdrummer if you want something super simple. I've used Fruity Loops and it's a blast, but I've never tried to make it sound like real drums, just techno stuff.

Thanks guys!

Yeah i want to go the simple route, just good sounds and simple programming!

After watching the tutorial on the EZdrummer website, im thinking i may go for EZdrummer. Looks extremely easy to use and sounds pretty good too.. Not to mention its dirt cheap to buy! :)

If it works with Garageband, then im sold.

Ez Drummer, way easier than the BFD I bought and sent nights learning only to upgrade to BFD2 and do some more learning.

Ralph told me to get it, of course I feel hook line and sinker for the bells and whistles of BFD.................bad move

All these are "dirt cheap" if you use torrents. ;) That said, you'll be very limited with Garageband. I switched to Logic Pro, and I'm very glad I did. Also, you'll be very limited if you're just dragging and dropping loops. You'll have to get your hands dirty sometime and start writing them via MIDI. I like using GuitarPro for a base, and then adding more intricate stuff once I import the MIDI into Logic Pro.

That is where FL comes in for me, just drop the kit piece in there and go via midi. There are sample loops in BDF that are cool once tweaked but yeah your at some time going to have to program.

I live by XNL Audio's Addictive Drums. Absolutely love that program and then if I need to do any further sample replacement I use Slate Drums.

In Garageband, you can't individually EQ each drum, so the drums are gonna sound pretty bad, IMO. EZDrummer, as said above, sounds very thin without any EQ. I hate Logic's MIDI setup, so I do most of my programming ahead of time in GuitarPro, import the MIDI file to my project, and go from there.

Only one I've tried is addictive drums, real easy to use (drag and drop) sound fantastic. Been using them for some recording to do rough sketches on some songs, they really do sound amazing  I have a middle of the road Yamaha kit with really good mikes setup in the studio, the sounds on AD are WAY better than what we are getting ourselves. Very annoying for my drummer :D I havent compaired them with anything else, just because this is so easy to use

Hey Dan,
Yeah, one of the guys I work with has EZ drummer with the "Drumkit From Hell" which is Tomas Haake of Meshuggah sampled kit and playing. He was able to whip up a tune very quickly with it and it sounds excellent.
Cheers,
Mike
