Duende is sold...what's next?

Sold my Bogner Duende today. Just wasn't as thrilled with it as I hoped to be.

So what's next through the revolving door?

My Naylor is going to get a cap job, after which it might be the one to beat.

But I'm thinking of going 'all-in' for an Ecstasy Classic next. I'm looking for an amp that's going to blow me away right out of the gate. I haven't had an amp do that for me since I first played a Budda SD80, oh, 7 or 8 years ago....however long it's been...

My criteria: an amp that's fairly effortless to play...'greasy'...but even at lower gain levels and without effects. Great master volume. Works equally well with strats and LPs. Everything beyond that is just gravy.

Anybody have any other recommendations beyond the XTC?

That Landry head was pretty damn impressive, the one Thump owns...well I actually liked the darker one but if I had the money, I'd buy one.

I think the XTC would be exactly what you're looking for. It also does better with the Les Paul, AND Strat thing than just about any amp I've played besides a Plexi.

Lance-A-Not's SD80 in the classified section :D

How bout an amp I haven't already owned.

And I'm not just talking about the model, I'm talking about that actual amp!

Why I oughta... :gethim:

I liked Thump's video of it. How much do they run?

Another plexi-type is an option too I suppose..

What didn't you like about the Duende?

I think the XTC is badass. Never played the Classic though, just the 101b, but everyone says the Classic is more "open, less compressed, and has more Marshally bark" than the 101b. Might be right up your ally. And if you don't dig it, then you can feel very confident you can sell it, as XTCs are always in demand.

Ever think about an Egnater MOD50?

Try a Zinky Blue Velvet....very "greasy" od channel. Bruce can walk you through some easy to do mods, though, if you want to change the feel of the channels. Clean channel is ok.....a little dark.

Last I checked Landrys go for $2650

Duende....not enough gain for me. And I am NOT a high gain guy really. Also not as smooth-toned as I would like. It was a little rawer.

MOD50...something about it just doesn't appeal to me very much, at least as much as it did when it first came out. Can't quite put my finger on what. But the tones I have heard in clips and whatnot have been good.

Einstein maybe?

Thats how I felt about the Shiva I had before I returned it for the MOD50.

I've been really impressed with my MOD50 so far. The master is AWESOME and sounds great at whisper volumes. The main appeal is the versatility of the thing ... prefer a Twin clean over a Bassman? Switch out the module. Prefer a Vox crunch over super high gain? Switch out the module. So far so good with me...

I think you'd dig it but I wouldn't see that as a keeper for you. I'd think you dig the XTC Classic more... having heard your playing style and tone preference.

Your old one?????

oops

I played a classic years ago, but I think I prefer my 101B (post 2004 with higher gain red channel) over it. For a channel switcher, the Ecstasys are hard to beat. If they had a second footswitchable master volume like my mesa stilleto does, would be damn near perfect.

Might also want to see if anyone near you has a Mod 50 or even *gasp* a plebian Randall RM series amp. Being able to swap out the modules is super cool, and they are especially cool for those among us who like lots of different amps - being able to buy a 'new channel' for $150 or so to $400 (depends on randall vs egnater and used vs new) and pop it into the amp ourselves is pretty keen.
