I still prefer the ones from the 80's.

Same here. I had an old one (late 70's or early 80's) in my LP Custom and sold it when I went with a more PAF-ish pickup because I was playing blues rock at the time. I've had a couple newer ones in there in recent years trying to capture some of the old tone that I had with that guitar...its not even close
