Whats your opinion about this one?

I need a humbucker for my Strat (Alder body, maple neck) and im considering some options:

Duncan Holdsworth: Seems like a killer pickup, but hard to find used and really expensive new. Im not sure about what to do.

Duncan JB or Custom Custom: Easy to find, good price. Had the JB on a Les Paul and liked it. Never tried the other one.

Suhr DSH+ or Aldrich: The DSH+ seems like a Holdsworth and i have read awesome stuff about the Aldrich.

Atm i have a set of SCN single coils on the CS Strat. I really like middle and neck, but dont really like the bridge (Especially for Hard Rock, it kinda sucks).

Thanks!

I had bought a Custom Custom a while back, and was so full of hope, and just didn't ever dig it. Try the Duncan EVH, one of my favorite pickups.

not a fan of the JB in alder, that pickup will be coming out of my ESP as soon as i get it.

the duncan EVH is a well kept secret. a very high output pickup none-the-less, it does sound great.

custom custom, custom 5, and custom 8 are all the same pickup but with different magnets - custom custom uses an alnico 2 bar, custom 5 is well... you get the rest.

The Duncan EVH is only around 8.5-8.8K output, but does sound killer. The JB is a pretty hot output and the NEW EVH pickup that's modeled from the REALLY expensive Frankenstrat is a high output pickup. ;)

the DC resistance has nothing to do with output directly persay - its just like the HS-3 from dimarzio, it measures 23K resistance, but is actually weak as hell - extremely low output.

the new EVH is one hell of a hot pickup, i have installed one for someone and it was as hot as a seymour duncan invader

only the EVH mannaged itself much better and sounded killer!

the old ones? i remember there being a secrecy about that. like the initials of EVH meant something else in their custom shop.

i think i remember recalling that i thought the peavey wolfgang pups sounded better than the first EVH ones.

You are correct, I stand corrected.

The EVH stood for Evenly Voiced Harmonics

If I remember correctly the Holdsworth sounds like a JB with an A2 magnet. Might be worth a shot to buy a used JB and swap the magnet.

SD calls it the '78 model and it only has about 9K which is the max for a PAF wind with the 42 gauge wire. Its my favorite pickup and it works great when matched with single coils.

I thinks glpg80 is referring to the new EVH branded pickup. The Frankentstrat pickup has 14.4k and sounds very close to a Custom Custom.

Get the Duncan EVH/'78 pup. I have it in my Frankenstrat copy and it works very well. Great all around pup.

duncan "custom custom"? tried it years ago and hated it mainly because it has an extremely loose, sloopy bottom end.a typical characteristic of an alnico II magnet....guess it depends on your music tastes & playing style but if tight low-end is what you prefer then STAY AWAY from this pup ;)

I have used all of the pups you listed (except for the holdsworth)

If I had to pick one:

Suhr Aldrich.

It's the most balanced AND versatile.

It rips too@!

no, for an Alnico II, it actually has a tighter bottom end, kind of like yours use to be about 25 years ago prior to non-stop entry.

hey $50 bucks is $50 bucks ;)  ...seeing that all the money that you've spent money on me over the years has bought me cars, motorcycles, jetskis, and snowmobiles,i cant complain :scared: :D

What about the BKP Holy diver for bridge? I understand its close to the JB, right?

I had a Duncan CC in my Les Paul for a while. Really good at taming a bright amp, without sounding dull. I have an aldrich coming in the mail soon, so I'll post a review when it gets here.

I think the Nailbomb is more geared towards the JB. I like the regular old cheap ass JB.

I listened to some Nailbomb clips and its brutal! It sounds cool, but too much gain for me.

Anyone else wanna share?

Btw is the Suhr Aldrich cool for a Strat or only recommended for LP?

Speaking of an old EVH '78...I have a Zebra trem spaced for sale. PM me if your interested.

I have an Aldrich in a maple/alder superstrat and the thing smokes. Hotter than the Duncan Custom that I pulled, but with a warmer EQ. Cleans up well with the volume knob. That's the first place I'd look for a bridge pickup.

I hate LP's.

Thanks again!
